Most likely your valves. Check the lash.

Also known as Valve Clearance. It's a regular practice on these dam fourstrokes.

Check out the "How To "forum- it will explain everything you need to know on how to set the clearance.

first to adjust the lash, you need to remove the valve rocker caps on the cylinder head. then you need a feeler guage, screwdriver, and a wrench. the feeler guage, you need the correct clearence # to fit between the valve syem and rocker arm. then with the wrench loosen the jam nut. after that tighten the screw untill you feel a little friction with the feeler guage. you are correctly adjusted. finnally, tighten the jam nut.

o, yes. make sure the piston is at top dead center, on the compression stroke.

i had some really bad ticking on my bike, then i started burning tons of oil so i did a 426 kit and had the guy at the machine shop check my valves and both intake valves were junk, so maybe its the valves

Could be a stuck disconnector. Checking the valves usually fixes this.
