What do u guys think is the best drop in camshaft and piston setup. I dont really want to run race fuel due to reliability reasons but need to do something to stay competitive to the 06's. Im doing a top end rebuild eitherway so was seeing what your opinions were...of any combinations. Whether sparks aggressive camshaft and 12:1 piston kit, a JE 11:1 with a hotcams stage 1..i'm open for ideas.

JE 12:0 piston and a Sparks "aggressive" cam is REALLY GOOD. I run 100 octatne fuel and It Hauls arse.

But you can also run pump gas with the 12:1:)

where did you get the cam and JE piston from?...and will it run like crap on pump gas?..because i was told race fuel only on 12:1, im leaning towards the 12:2 though. Is the aggressive drop-in or do u have to shin as well?

I got my Cam through the buy forum on here and I bought my piston thru Sparks Racing. I wouldnt recommend going through sparks for the simple fact is that they are REALLY RUDE ppl:mad: go to somebody else. 12:1 is the highest you can go with using pump (93). I Use 93 and some Accelarator and bump it to 100 oct. I brought it to the honda dealership for the install, but I dont think that I used any shims...Let me know if you have anymore questions on this matter and I will be glad to assist you in any way. And let me know what you think of it once it is up and running. Give it a couple days b4 you make you opinion...mine took a few days to break in and seat the piston.

I believe all the sparks "aggressive" cam is, is an 02 CRF 450 cam...not sure though:)

You can acually lose power by running race fuel when you dont need it.....

A good motor builder around here does all the Honda 450 motors with a 13.4:1 and a Hotcams stage 2.. it hauls...

I think anywhere from a JE 13.:1 or a baldwin 14:1 piston and a HC stg 2, wouls give the best results. Well for me im running the Je 13:1 and a hc stg 2 cam. Great power overall.

I use the Baldwin 14:1 and the Baldwin MX cam and that is a fast combo. To stick with Pump I would go with a 12:1 wiseco from Baldwin and his cam I used to use that on premium pump with no top end problems to speak of and it ran rather impressive. Baldwin modifies his pistons by machining the skirts down to reduce weight and drag and help it rev faster.
