i got a torque spec off of the internet for the clutch spring to be torqued to 17ft.lbs. well 17 is apparently too much because i broke one of the bolts then stopped. does anyone know the actual torque spec?

I was always told just to snug them up. Never had any problems. You figure the springs are making the bolt act like a lock washer. Just a thought.

the manual does not specify a torque. i would say 6-8 lbs would have done it. just snug em up

Was it a Clymer manual that said 17 lbs? Seems like you find more mistakes in Clymer's than factory manuals. My 300ex was 7 lbs so I'm sure that would work for a 400ex also.

i would just snug them up, the pressure of the springs pushing outward will make the threads tighter anyways, just get them snug

Yep....

There isn't a torque spec for those bolts.

7 ft lbs sounds about right. make sure you use the blue locktite.

save the pressure plate or hub or watever cuz u can extract that screw with a grabit................ search that word on google
