what grit paper before heat gun?

I started at 220 then 400, should i sand out to 600 and then use my heat gun or go for it now? Then I plan on spraying it with amorall and ride. Any other suggestions.

Go up really high. The more you sand the better it's gonna look.

I'm serious when I say high, too - like 1000 or higher.
