Got this from another board and thought it was interesting.

PA Permits Available for ATVs
on Coal Company Land
Not cheap.. but worth every penny!

The Skinny: For $100 a year you can ride your ATV and hunt on 20,000+ acres of land that's usually off limits.

Coal companies in our area usually discourage people from riding their all terrain vehicles on their land but in Schuylkill County one firm is taking a different approach. For a fee you can ride through the coal land all year long.

Bud Matto sells ATVs at his shop near Pottsville. "The majority of people on ATVs and motorcycles are good people, honest people," he said.

The Reading Anthracite Coal Company wants some of those good people to take part in a special program. For $100 a year you can ride your ATV and hunt on 20,000 acres of land that's usually off limits.

"We have a large area to patrol with these people out here, whether they are hunting or riding their ATVs, there are more eyes out there to help us," said Joe Yozwiak of Reading Anthracite.

Coal property is a prime target for illegal dumpers and thieves. Recently $20,000 in copper wire was stolen from the coal company.

"We're looking at an industry that's getting land shut down on us and closures and to purchase a permit we're going to police it for the other people," Matto said.

"If anyone is seen on the property without an access permit causing any damage or littering they have an incentive, that if they get an ID on the person, they'd get a free permit for a year," Yozwiak explained.

"I think it's a good thing for our community and our industry," added Matto.
