What is involved in putting a 400 ex motor in a 300 ex frame?

i wouldnt waste the time, just do a 350x swap its alot more popular and there are parts to help you do it. i think poweroll makes a kit so you can put the 350x motor in it pretty easily.

the 350x swap is alot better of an idea, also the swingarm fits too and is 1 1/2 longer. I want to do something like that, but I'd rather build up my 86 350x when I get some money, time, and ability to walk. Poweroll sells a mount kit, exhaust and almost everything you need. You will need a 350x harness or 250x harness too

well would like to just put back in a 300 motor if I could find one complete that runs good. Here is the bike, guy I got it from said it was just rebuilt, but my mechanic says it has blowback, cuz when he checked the plug to do a plug check it had carbon build up on it.

that carbon is from the motor running. Just put a new plug in. Sounds like to me, your mechanic just some some cash.

the 350x conversion is easy. im almost done with mine. dont bother with the spacer kit from powroll, i made my own from an old dirtbike wrist pin. you need to cut the left half of the upper 350x motor mount, to fit into the 300ex or 250x chassis. you also need to relocate your oil cooler and extend your 350x header. powroll has the header and exhaust you need, and a fine selection of performance parts for the 350x. all you need is a 250x wiring harness and 350x cdi box(the 250x cdi wire plugs right into the 350x cdi). a set of stock 400ex a-arms, will give you +2 width in the front. dimond j customs has a nice kit to put 400ex or 450r shocks on the 250x or 300ex. o, i almost forgot that the raptor shock has the same measurements to put into your frame also.
