Which one is better out of the two I am looking at the 2006 models. This is going to be a bike to just stroll around on nothing spectacular but I just want to know which one is better of the two. Thanks for the help.

Z250. If you want a strong bulletproof 250 go with the Suzuki. My daughter and 2 other girls ran one at the maxxis 12 hour of America race last fall and finished 45th overall with no problems when the Yfz450's and Honda 450's were having problems. At one of our local xc series, they have her run the 250 in the utility class. Last year she finished third in points with it, and she raced against big powered quads including 700 v forces. There is one honda 250 that also ran in this class, and never beat my daughter. The Z250 is bone stock except for skidplates.

250ex theres no reason for me to explain
if you want something reliable and something that wont break down on you out in the woods then get a 250ex
never had a problem with my 03 250ex but a buddy of mine had many problems with his suzuki 03 250
so they are no where close to a 250ex, they might be a little faster but not by much at all

I can say that from experience. Plus the '06 has a bunch of updates. I say 250ex.

250ex, i had one for 2 years and put it through the most hell you could imagine. its a tank and starts everytime. but if you plan on doing any faster, more aggressive riding go with a 300ex.

Either one is fine - go to the dealer and sit/test ride both of them and get the one that appeals to you most. I have both, one each for my two sons. The Honda's more responsive and better matched gears to power. With a jet kit/air filter/exhaust, the little Suzuki really wakes up. I prefer the suspension of the Suzuki over the Honda and is more comfortable for longer/all day riding...

250ex

i've ridden the snot out of it since i bought it late '01 about a month after 9/11

only problems i've come across were a tendency for the main jet to loosen itself  (since resolved) , 2 bent axles, 1 tire puncture, 1 bent rim (ate chit at 40 miles an hour, also fawked up axle)....thats pretty much it

i was gonna get a 450 but i dont do any organized racing, i pretty much exclusively ride tight trails, i'm a college freshman so $$$$ is tight and i dont really need 45 hp, so i'm just gonna get some taller handlebars and a big carb to satisfy my performance needs

great machine, can handle a ton of abuse

According to last months ATV Sport magazine, they picked the Suzuki 250 in a shootout over the Honda.

right, because we all know that magazine reviews are totally unbiased and the end-all be-all in purchasing a bike.

What a moron you must be! It is less bias then your opinion you idiot. You suggest a Honda but have probaly never ridden the Suzuki. What kind of worthless advice would that be? The like the Honda but they like the Suzuki more. I'm not the only person in the world that uses the info from magazines as part of my decision making process you fool.

both are solid reliable quads, honda is almost undestructable
look at all the 1987 250x's still buzzing around.
you may want to look at resale value also, this is a good indication of how they hold up.
anything (cars/trucks etc.) that run forever are worth more $$
honda is shaft drive so no worries about chains.
I have a 05 250ex that my wife drives and when I go slow trail riding I would rather drive it than my 450r. the 250 is a better putter and 1st and 2nd gear have respectable power for wheelies and climbing hills.
I rode suzuki dirtbikes for ever. then got a honda and have not owned another make since.
true quality will convert a brand loyal buyer/rider.
come on over to honda---there is always room on the band wagon.

A newbie to posting here does not make me a newbie to the sport chief. I am 43 and have forgotten more about motorcycles and atv's than you will ever learn. For what it is worth, I wouldn't buy either one of those clams.

funny how a post can turn,
and the assumtions made by people who now very little of each other.
I wouldnt buy either of the 250's for myself because its a entry level atv (the best beginner atv IMO).
thats why I got one for my wife who is just getting started, and when she is ready to move up to a better performance atv (if she ever gets to that point) the 250ex will be handed down to the kids or sold for more than the suzuki.
well keep up argument and everyone else have fun riding.

There both the same relbleity, my friends each had one, the z was a lot harder to wheelie though. There had been 2 years of hell and back for those quads and nothing wrong with them. They were gear slammed every time they were rode and no tranny prolems.

The 250ex isn't even close in comparison to the 250x - totally different motor so don't use that as a comparison.

It's 6 of one, half dozen of another. Pick whichever one you can get the better deal on. Both have engines that started life in utility quads and there's not much of an aftermarket for either one. They're very similar built quads. If you can handle a clutch, get a 300ex.

I got my wife's Z-250 for $3300 otd at my local dealership so that's what I bought. The Yoshi pipe really woke the quad up.

You're asking this on a Honda site so you can guess what the overall consensus is going to be. It's kind of like asking if you should buy a 450R, R-450 or YFZ450 - it's just going to turn into a worthless thread that you can have read through 10 pages worth of garbage to get 1 page worth of good informative information.

Here's some good info

the meaning is that honda entry level quads live forever
and the motor is the most expensive item but its not the only thing that can break.
honda has a rep. and its a good one
im not saying anything bad about the suzuki, I have friends with the old 230 quad sports that are reliable.
I am just stating my experience, and I own a 2005 250ex now
and like I said...................
THEY ARE BOTH SOLID RELIABLE QUADS
and neither are yamaha's wich is a big bonus
(j/k there yfz450inMI)

I bought my wife an absolutly beat 2001 250EX last summer and it still ran good.....and she loves it.....but right now it is getting all redone so it looks and runs even better than it did.....I mean it was beat....as bad as it looked and what I found after I tore it down.....it has to say how the honda's are made......they are bulletproof...and I have seen this first hand with the 250R's I've had and this 250EX.....Honda all the way
