Ive had a atv since i was 7 yrs old, now im 22. I was thinking about putting an exhuast kit on my 400ex, but whoa! ( full systems cost 400.00 or more) How are they so expensive, i mean i bought a magnaflow catback for my z28 which was 300 dollars shipped( its stainless steel and guaranteed for life!) I just dont think I can spend 400 bucks to a piece of pipe that is less than 5ft in length

get used to it, the only exhausts that are cheap are cobra and they are crap. they say there is alot of design that goes into the design of them. I paid about $500 for a tc system for my crf450r hybrid that had to be finish welded together so it fit the no-link shock and frame. The supertrapp 350x mid pipe and canister I bought for my 200x was almost as much as the cobra pipe I had for my 200x.

Wait till you get into the suspension:ermm:

You can get new shocks all around for the Camaro for less than $150

For the quad a pair of fronts will start at about $350:eek:

Remember this is a hobby, it's OK to spend the money:p :D

Who knows if we are going to be able to ride them in the future, simply cause we all will have to get second jobs just to put gas in them! Not to mention the fuel for the trucks to tow them to the place we ride

there is alot of R&D that goes into the exhaust of a quad. your camaro uses an off teh shelf muffler with some off teh shelf pipe that was bent to the specifics of the car, but you cant just put any silencer on a quad and have it run right, they are bike specific. but i do know where you are coming from, i put a full exhaust, stailess headers and all on my old truck for less than $500, while i spent almost that much on my quad's exhaust. But it is like that for everything about them. as Joeex said about the suspension. i can rebuild a chevy 350 for about the same as i can my 400ex.

carbs u cant forget how much carbs are i can get a carb for my 88 stang (not that i would get rid of the EFI..) for HALF as much it would cost for an edelbrock for the quad...

basically there is r&D costs for these pipes. the camaro uses a muffler that you can use on 50 other cars with no problem.

there is also a quantity factor. the more you do the cheaper they can be. so there are more cameros out there then 450r's. so they can make more mufflers and R&D costs are better spread out over the product.

my new powercore 4 fmf was $460 cdn.(slip on only) & i can see right through it doesnt seem like much r&d there but supply & demand being an issue & that pipe may fit several other bikes but not 50 of them & the larger the aftermarket the more competive the pricing ,but you do get what you pay for sometimes cobras may be cheap but the bad press they get & just the look of it I could never put that on my bike even if someone gave it to me !

r&d thats a good excuse

they charge that much because they sell less of them. if there were as many 400ex's buying exhaust systems, as lets say camaros then they would be cheaper but the companys want to keep their dividends high w/o selling the mass quantitys that sell on car parts
