Went to put new pads on my 300 this past weekend, rear brakes have not worked since I got it, dealer said it was just pads when they replaced the clutch, took the caliper off, took out the pads(thought the piston was in all the way) put new pads in, shim was missing! Also went to put the caliper with new pads over the rotor would not go, after about an hour, figured the piston was racked! Had to disassemble the caliper, clean it out, found a lot of rust, no brake fluid in the resivoir! Put it back in works great now, do I really need the pad shim? Also would a parking brake block off plate cure that rust problem???? Not sure what the plates are really for!

The shims keep the pads tight so you don't get brake squeal. Theyare very important.
