although its the end of the season, i mainly go duning, and am able to slowly pull away from my bro's raptor, but i wanna run away... going from stock sprockets, will 16t front, and 37t rear kick him out on the drags, and up olds??

Man from what i've read on here you don't wanna gear your quad up for sand, only real high horsepower machines do that. If you gear yours up you gonna be slower in a drag with a raptor. On topend you may not be able to pull 5th gear very well on the sand.

I would go with stock or a 14 tooth in front if i was you.

He's got 660 cc's (or 680) and you have 426. You're probably not gonna pull him on any hill. But the sprocket set up out to do well PROVIDED you keep your RPM's up in the power band. Expect some bogging down of the motor if those RPM's even begin to get a little low. If you have any chance at all, it's gonna be in accleration off-the-line. A 16 front is getting pretty tall. Just dropping 1 on the rear isn't gonna make all that much difference.

Also,
be sure to install your 16 way ahead of time. Some case savers won't allow a 16 to fit. (Mine doesn't.)

I was at the dunes a few weeks ago with stock 15/38 gearing and I didn't like it. Unless you have one fast, powerful quad, you definitely don't want to gear up for the dunes. You ride 2nd and 3rd gear almost all the time, ocassionally getting into 4th, but hardly ever using 5th. You don't need top-end at the dunes. Next time I go I am going to a 14 tooth front, and probably leave the rear alone. More torque down low will be your friend.

on the drags, and going off the line for the hills, my front end never wants to stay on the ground n e wayz. I was kinda hoping the extra tooth would slow it down justa hair to keep the front wheels on the ground at least till i get to the woops.

he has a stock engine raptor, air-box kit,(bigger jets), and a big gun pipe

its fast as ****, but the wieght gives me the same speed/power as his

right now, its all on the take-off and who has the bigger balls in the woops. we r about as close to equal as i coulda ever imagined

he is 185lbs
i am 137lbs

both running the same sand stars in back, and stock tires in front(till next season) :)
