Hi,

i have a k and n filter. This is my first time washing it. I washed it out with warm water. got all the dirt off and everything.. put the spray on and let it sit for a while... then i rinsed all the spray stuff off of it.. (its kind of like red or pink) there is still some on there that wont come off. is that okay?

thanks
thomas

spray some of the K&N degreaser on again, let it soak for like 10 min. Come back and if you have that removable handle thing on your sink, just turn the water to warm and wash from the inside out

Uhmmm the red/pink stuff "is" the oil you want on there. The degreaser is used to strip off the old oil. So the red stuff is a good thing to be on there, it is colored so you can see where you've applied it already.

no i put the cleaner on... i didnt use the oil yet.. but some of the cleaner stained the filter i think ..cuz some parts of it are pink.. i think this happened because i let it soak for more than 10 minutes.. is this okay?

no, the cleaner did not stain the filter... the oil may still be on there, and no it will not hurt the filter... just make sure you get it good and oiled.

Doesn't look like you have all of the oil off the filter. I'd try again. Put a heavier coat of the degreaser on there. let it sit for another 10 minutes. You're not going to get it ALL off, but your photos show spoltches of oil still on there. It should at least be fairly evenly colored.

Once you're ready for oil, just spray a coat on, let sit and inspect it for thin spots, spray where needed.

yah i would spray the darker areas again, let them sit for like 15-20 mins, and then rinse it...

i copied and pasted this from another post... here i wrote

i am particularly anal about filters and making sure they are clean and making sure i dont suck any dirt or sand... I have 3 K&Ns and 1 UNI. i rarely rarely use the UNI, and its mostly when for some reason ive forgotten to clean the K&Ns and go out for a quick ride... i can definately tell it runs richer with the UNI and that i have more power & its crisper with the K&N... i also swap my filter and outerwear each day when down at the dunes. i also use a outerwear airbox lid, which i love by the way...
and amen to what Beerock said about pressure washing. you dont want to pressure wash them or even put your thumb on the end of the hose and spray them off like that. i take them off the bike, put them under the faucet and wash them from inside out, getting all the big chunks of sand and dirt and what not off & Out. i then let them sit for half hour or so, and then i spray 'em down real good with K&N cleaner, and let them sit for another 15-30 minutes... i then rinse them out real good, again just using the faucet and not pressurising it, and then leave it to dry for a day... i then oil it real good, making sure everything is oiled, and let it sit for another day before i use it... this process works like a champ...
i personally think UNIs are a bigger pain in the butt to clean and oil...
