that fish is probably 200 years old or probably more. sturgeon are the longest living fish they are common to reach 100years old. ive heard of 200 pounders being over 100 cant imagine how old a 1000 pounder would be. i really hope they let it go a fish living that long deserves to live his life out.

The picture is real, I live in mission and can see the mission bridge from my bedroom and we go fishing for sturgeon all the time. Biggest one i have caught so far was just over 8ft and took 2 hours to get in. They are fun to catch but are illegal to keep and fisheries are out all the time making sure nobody keeps or kills them. But yes they are real and do get that big.

yes, but have you ever seen one? i have heard that too.

In tennesee, they were repairing a dam on the tennesee river that created Watts Bar lake. THey sent divrs down, and after teh first day tehy refused to go down again without shark cages due the the catfish being so large. many workers claimed fish large enought to swallow them whole, fish as large as cars. whether this is true or not, i dont know. but a while back when i was researchign going to watts bar, i found this story. i will try to dig it up again.

yea, there was a diver for this damn in warwood, along the ohio. he went to work one morning, dove down to check some things on the bottom of the damn, and saw a catfish. needless to say, it scared the hell out of him. he came up, hung up his gear, and quit that afternoon.

That's how the fish are in the Mississippi River up here and around the Stillwater bridge. Divers are scared to death to do repairs on the old bridge because of how huge the fish are underneath. Also up in Lake Superior I'm sure the fish are even bigger, fish like that tend to grow according to their surroundings...so if the lake is big, the fish are big.

Sry i needed commas and it was a typo. the guy asked if it was photoshopped i meant it to say: I seriously doubt it, they actually get that big. I know they get that big Beluga sturgeon in Russia have been caught in nets claming to weigh over a ton. But if 4 guys helped reel that fish in it wont be in the IFGA record book because to be a record only one person can touch the rod or line.

well, since were on the subject of fish... i wonder how big they get out in bottom of the ocean.

fast_enough
04-11-2006, 07:55 PM
Yea, there is a place on the ohio that does repairs etc. on barges. And dive under the water with suits and repair the barges. And there have been 2-3 guys I know of quit because of catfish they saw in there, must've scared them pretty bad, because thats a high paying job. I would piss my pants if something like that swam by me.

I doubt they could go down that far, there is so much pressure down there for fishes.

Whale Shark is the biggest fish and i think its upwards of 3-4 tons if not more. Most fish found in really deep parts of the ocean are smaller due to lack of nutrition.

Here's another one for you: when they were building our bridge across the Ohio river, they had to dynamite a catfish out of the way because it was too big to move. It just laid there facing upstream with it's mouth open and let the current feed it.

Almost looks like a large pike with a smaller pike in it's mouth .

I've heard of Garr Pikes before ... never heard of Alligator Garrs though . Got anymore pics of an alligator garr??

Largest pike I've ever caught was around the 20 lbs mark .... largest pike I've ever seen come out of a lake was 34lbs .

I once netted a 10 lbs pike in the spring after the ice left the lake .... he was on surface sunning himself .... i drove by with the boat and scooped him up .... easiest fish I've ever caught . :D I've also had the luxury of having a huge pike pull our 14ft boat around a bay before finally snapping the line .... good thing cuz that sucker would have been mounted on the wall !!!!!!

I got lots of great fishing stories !!!! A new world record Rainbow Trout was caught here in town just lately .... the fish weighed in at 40.68 lbs ... shattering the old record by 11 pounds .

Ive never heard of alligator gar being in pike water and i agree with quad18star it looks like a bigger pike. ive heard of people catchin little pike and bigger pike rippin into them. But there is such thing as a alligator gar record is like 200 sumthin lbs i think

If that is indeed a pike, that thing would be close to a record cause that thing is massive!. Tha largest pike i have seen somone catch was 44 inchs

The rod and reel world record alligator gar weighed 290 lbs, and the trot line, or unrestricted division record weighed 302 lbs. Both were caught in the Rio Grande River back in the 1950s, and measured a little over 7 and a half feet in length.

Theres was a man a while back that caught a 500+ lb blue marlin on 4 lb test line its ligit too its in the ifga record book in the line class records.

Also i think that first pic of the gar is a lil enhanced cuz if its a lil over 7 ft that guy is really short cuz it looks like its over a foot over his head and thats not even the whole fish. unless hes standing really far behind it.

my uncles website has some pretty big fish on it.

www.bowfishingstuff.com

My family has bowfished for years and alligator gar are normally a type of fish we shoot. They are in many fresh water lakes and dont' bother people. Largest one I"ve shot was 56 inches. IN Texas they get over 8 feet easily.

No its not true, he lied to you. I am a diver and we here stories all the time about catfish as big as volkswagons but they are all bs. Its always the same story a buddys ,dads, friends was a diver and so on. Even if there was a little bit of truth to it catfish dont try to eat you. We are down there working, making noises that they have never heard, and have bubbles coming out of our head, they dont want anything to do with us. I am tired of hearing stories about divers being scared of fish. What kind of sh*t is that, how can a diver get any of work if he is scared of fish?
