ok this might be a dumb question, but do you check the oil on a 400ex with the motor hot or cold?

u should warm it up for 5 minutes. If its really cold, make it 10. After done warming up turn it off and check it. Hoped I helped.

how long do you let it sit after sutting it off befor you check it?
i had a z400 that i would run the motor, and then let it sit for 4-5 min. and then check it. is the 400ex the same?

definately cold

Uhhh noo!! read your owners manual..

Warm it up for 5 minutes like the others said then check it as soon as you shut it off. The longer you wait the more will drain back into the case and show a lower reading.

Like the others stated the motor needs be warm.

Two other important steps:

The motor needs idle for a few minutes before turning off.

Do NOT screw the dipstick in when checking the level. Remove and wipe it off then stick it back in and remove it without screwing it in to check the level.
