I am going to be making a frame, and swingarm skid for my 250r next week. Working at a hot rod shop has it's advantages, I have access to all the tools to build these right. I was thinking that 3/16 is the right thickness for the aluminum? I just wanna make shure I'm right before I order the materials. I will post pics, and a thread in the how to section on how to do this when I am done.

I have 3/16 or somthing close to that diamond plate. It works we great and i had no problems with it at all.

go with at least .250 on the swinger, anything less will bend. the frame skid can be thinner, it don't take the beating that the swinger takes

I agree.
but for the motor, a plastic one will work fine.

.250 is 1/4
.1875 is 3/16

i have had .190 skids on my swingers, might as well have been running paper...

Ok thanks. I might end up having to make it out of 3/16 anyways, I don't know if dave has the stuff to bend 1/4 inch.

I made my swinger skid plate out of 3/16 steel plate. Its not that heavy and it held of great. Never had any rock dent it.

Yea it's not like I'll be riding baja, or GNCC. It's an MX/trail quad.
