my buddie and I got the same 03 z400 and we are experiencing the same problems they are bogging out after 2 or 3 minutes of riding we put regular pump gas in them at the same station. does the premium gas make that much of a difference to the machine to the point of them not running well and actually caughing and making them sputter? they have no power after that amount of time. just wondering if any one has experienced this problem b 4 or if its a fluke that both quads started to act up at the same time.

it could be water in your tank or jetting issues.

Check the petcock filter, it could be clogged. You should also check the fual tank cap vent to see if it is clogged as well.

how many of you guys do run premium gas in it tho. im not experiencing problems like that on mine but when im running wide open for a while it starts bogging down just a lil that is just at higher speeds tho.

The manual recommends premium, so that's all i run and don't have any problems.

i ran pump gas on my 05 and it ran fine... i had the same problem tho it wouldn't start and it would sputter etc. i ended up having a vacum leak on my carb.

i heard of alot of these problems with other z and fxs. some fixes were as simple as cleaning the air filter. or cleaning the carb out. nothing ever to serious

Well if you have a few common factors that is worth considering. Try empting the tanks & getting fresh fuel somewhere else, using a clean container etc...

I would say it is a fuel issue, if it runs fine at first then seems to starve for fuel, as like the carb bowl is not filling fast enough. I would say that would casue more of a sputter than a bog.

If your air filter is clogged it would idle decent & could cause a rich condition, which would make it bog even worse once the motor is reaching operating temp.
