(Pulled from Digg)

This video is cool as ****. There's a new anti-missle technology that creates a bubble of protection around land-based combat vehicles. Check it out.

^^ Real write-up

In a Feb. 28 test... two inert RPGs were fired simultaneously; one would hit the Stryker while the other was intentionally aimed for a near miss… Trophy was able to track the trajectory, discriminate among the two parallel targets, and determine which one would actually hit the Stryker before selectively unleashing its lethal countermeasures. The actual method used to destroy the targets is classified.

Its not a force field, its more to do a second generation reactive armor. Instead of waiting to be hit, its a radar that detects weapons fired at the vehicle, and then fires a giant claymore mine at the missle to detonate the missle's warhead outside of its kill envelope. The Israeli's built it for thier Merkiva, pretty cool if it makes it past the test stages.

Yea, it's more of a metaphorical force field. Still, if this technology can eliminate the threat of RPGs, thatd be amazing. Also, if they had these on blackhawks in Mogudishu, none of that wouldve happened.

Wont happen, you cant realy armor blackhawks, or any helicopter very effectively, and as a mechanic on a blackhawk, I am waaaay against having stuff blowing up on my helicopter on purpose.
