So I finally decided that I am going to go get in my first race tomorrow-I would like to know a few things about it since I have never really raced on a track before like this-
These might sound like stupid questions but I would like a heads up on things...

How do you know when its your turn to pull your quad up to the line?
Can you choose the gate you start at?
How many laps do they run at Byron?
Do you go all out in practice?
Doesnt the AMA issue you a number? Because on my quad I have number 13 on it from the past owner, can I just use that?

Anything you can think of that is good to know post it up. Thanks.

First, don't be so nervous, just watch everyone else and go with the flow. Dist. 17 does assign numbers, and from what I heard from a buddy the gate does not fill up for quads. go out and do your own thing.

Well I just figured a hoody or a long sleeve t-shirt, I am running low on funds after buying a quad, helmet, boots, chest protector, neck roll.....

Any other tips would be much appreciated.

It was a very bad day for me-
First, practice went great- Did really good, hit everything nice. But I kept hearing this popping and pinging in 3rd gear and there was no power- I just figured that my jetting needed to be set different since the guy that I bought it from said its jetted for 80 degree weather and it was fairly cold this morning.

Well then the race came along, and my adrenaline was pumping, I was real excited and not nervous at all. The gates drop, I take the holeshot by a long shot, at the first jump a guy runs into me while I was in the air, I fall and my tether cord broke, luckily I found it right away and off I went, I was pissed off so I just tried blowing through the whoop section, bad mistake, quad got a little sideways and somehow my foot ended up underneath my tire, I take off again still gaining on the guys that passed me and around the next corner my engine blew something and it died, so I just pulled off.
Got it back to the pits, pulled the spark plug and it looked good...we think it might have broke a bearing because it will run but it knocks real bad...

So then...20 minutes later my foot starts killing me...I went to our shop limped around working on my quad, my foot starts hurting so bad that I decided to go to the doctor, went home had to be carried in the house, took some pain killers went to the dr. and find out that I have severely sprained my ankle and wrist. Now I have to go to a specialist in 3 days to make sure there are no hairline fractures...what a day,

I can wait until im better, you better believe I will smoke that sob that flipped me.

But the cool thing was that I was the only 2 stroke quad over there in all a, b, and c classes....way to represent..haha.

The told me before the race that I needed a four stroke, they are quicker off the line, looks like I proved them wrong.

Don't let the fourstroke owners get too you. Alot of um prolly never even ridden an R. Once You get it all dialed in you wont have to worry about anything going wrong. I like having an R because I am not just another guy at the races, I am " The guy with the R"

Calm down Taz. Learn from what happened. Congrats on the holeshot. The holeshot is half the battle. Stay calm and ride smart. Its hard. I am not very good at staying calm yet, but I am working on it.
I sprained my ankle and broke my quad in my first race too, but I was hooked from then on. Try to stay focused and in control during the races. If you or your quad are broken, it isn't any fun.

Thanks for the advice- I just cant wait to get out there and win that damn race!:D

I watched them race on the second one and from the looks of it I think I could take at least 2nd. But I guess I cant say for sure until the next race.
