top speed? fastest? whatever...

can someone explain to me why there is such an obsession with the top speed of a quad? I mean seriously how often do u run 100% wide open? and so what if someone else quad will do 73 and yours only goes 70. I do not understand why people worry so much.. what ever happened to just plain skill? i ride a polaris trailblazer 400...i get my *** beat in dragraces, but then i say lets go race a through a woods. and its the complete other way around. can someone just explain to me why there top speed is such a big deal? and why people care about this stuff so much?

It all depend where you ride. I know my trails range from very tight trails to wide open trails to fields. At that point it is really nice to have some top speed.

Over here in in ND 80% of our riding in wide open ditch bottoms and open fields so we spend a lot of time pegged. That is why I like to have top end.

thank you for explaining that, we mainly ride in trails and its more about trying to see whose quad has enough balls to climb the biggest hill we can find... I wasnt trying to be a dick.. i just didnt understand.
