Looking into buying the one ESR cylinder in the forums. I came close to buying it. 200 bucks is one hell of a deal. sadly when i called LA sleeve to c how much the nikisal coating was going to cost i got a quote of 225.00 to have it done. Im not sure on how far you can bore it out. im assumming somewhere around 100 or so.

Hum, thats not much of a deal after you add all the other costs, plus I think its a 265 which is not what I would want to spend all that money on...Thanks

250R4evr are you talking about the 350? That isnt nikisil its just got a normal liner. $275 is a steal for that.

No i was talking about a different cylinder. Thus the ESR titile. I know the 350 cylinder kit is a good deal. Thats why im buying it. The esr cylinder is only 200 bucks. but it needs another 325 ti get it running. with the 350 one its going to need a Good case honning. Because that thing is HUGEEE

:huh

If it's overbored, then it's probably NOT nikasil.

Most cylinders you are familiar with have an iron sleeve pressed into an aluminum jug. To overbore, you cut a bigger hole in the iron sleeve.

Nikasil is a very hard coating that replaces the iron sleeve. A cylinder coated with nikasil is generally coated over bare aluminum WITHOUT the iron sleeve. Without that sleeve, it's not capable of being "overbored". If you have a problem, you need to strip all the nikasil off and get it re-coated, and then honed to spec.

It is possible to nikasil over the iron sleeve, but there would be absolutely no point in it, you loose all the advantage of the nikasil. It's like getting something powdercoated, and then painting it the same color. What's the point?

I'm not sure what this cylinder exactly was. When i was looking into buying it i was told it was an ESR bigbore cylinder. That need to be "recoated" I called up La Sleeve to figure out how much it was going to cost and what the extent of it was. They pry much told me it was 225 to have the process done and hung up on me. So i figured id Call ESR, the chick i talked to had no idea what i was talking about and said that they didnt make there cylinders like that and i needed to find out who did the sleeve work.

I then recieved an email from the seller stating it wasnt a bigbore cylinder. The explanation i got was " Its 80 0ver" by this time i was horriffied, and having nightmears about this cylinder. All in all i didnt buy it.

I did buy an CT Racing 350 cylinder though. Im ready for some real horsepower now. :blah:
