I've ridden a couple 06's stock form, power is amazing. The things they correct from the 04-05 models are things I've already fixed with aftermarket parts. I'm sure havin an 06 would be great, but I can't justify spending money on a new bike and then just switching it over to all aftermarket again. When my 04 does the job quite nicely.

Stock form hands down the 06 will rape an 04-05. Just all depends on how much money you want to spend.

I agree with fandl if you have an aftermarket 04 or 05 then an 06 will not be much better. If you have an 04 or 05 with a carb, piston, a-arms, swingarm, propegs you already fixed what an 06 will give you, except E-start. If I bought an 06 I would get a kick so I'll keep my 04 until EFI comes out.

The '04 handles better than the '06. But the '06 motor is faster and wakes up better w/ the hrc kit than the '04.

hey quadfam what would make an 04 handle better than an 06 stock vs stock ? I have an 06 and a close friend has an 04 I beg to differ

the 06 handles better, with out a doubt
longer swinger and new linkage ratio for tight turning
new a-arms knuckels and spindles for improved steering
lower center of gravity
06 front suspension lighter
shocks have better springs for small bump absorbtion
rear has more travel and lighter suspension
and the hubs are stronger
none of these are day and night diff but togeather they
equal a better handleing quad.

the 05's handle better without a doubt. the pro's are changing the front spindle's to 05's, the new shocks are extremely stiff.although the new rear is better. I have been extremely dissapointed with the electric start and front end compared too my 04

which pro is changing to stock 05 arms ?
I find it hard to believe a pro that wants a change in a arms is going to go with anything stock,

meaning they are running 05 aftermarket a-arms and 05 SPINDLES

Most people dont stick with stock supsension and swingers anyway. At least on this site. I gotta find out where the money tree grows. hehe:D

I have a 06 450R and my buddy has a 05 450R with HRC kit and different piston. His bike has all long travel PEP big bottle susp. and handles like a dream. I have a HRC kit installed in my 06 with a slip on pipe, my motor will eat his alive even with his motor work done.

Both bikes are excellent, the 06 is a better updated version.

i'm with jb500ex.... I remember jumping on my 04 when i first got it and it was alot more comfortable to ride hard the the 06 we just got... The 06 seems very stiff and set very tall compared to my 04...

Its been so long since i've ridden with stock suspension, but the 06 feels so uncomfortable for me.. But hey, i've got Houser +2 arms in the mail and a g-force axle sittin in the shop waiting to be installed so i'm sure that'll make a bit of difference..I bought the arms and the axle for my sister for her b-day..

this may be a little off topic but are '05/'06 a-arms interchangable w/o major modifications???

I have a 04 and a 06 and the 06 easilly handles better, i can pound through the whoops on the 06 while the 04 wants to through me off like im riding a bull, the 06 handles jumps way better soaking up the landing with ease, while the 04 still doing a sufficient job feels more likely to bottom. Engine wise, the 06 bends the 04 over its knee and spanks it lol.

I have heard from many about the "stiff" suspension on the 06 but my fat @_ _ weights in at 215 pounds and it feels perfect.

if you were to buy an o6 then you could do the same amount of work to it and have that much better of a quad.
I personally like the 04 and 05's the best but i also weigh 130 pounds. In stock form the o6 is hands down the fastes but in myopinion the 05 is more ridable.
