what gearing please help

has any one found out what you have to gear a 04 400ex to top out the same as or faster than a z400? and what is the shock gearing ?

Stock is 15/38.

Stock rev limiter on a 400EX is 9100rpm, not 8250 as shown on the chart.

Without engine mods I don't think you'll be able to pull anything taller than stock gearing. I don't think there is anyway you'd be able to hit the rev limiter in 5th with stock gearing and a stock motor (down hill maybe!).

What!?! an ex easily hits it's rev limiter bone stock. A 250lb rider on flat land could tap out the revs on a bone stock 400ex, and with more to go. they're not the quickest stock bikes but can easily top its revs out.

In top gear?? According to that chart, that would put a stock 400EX at over 75mph. I don't think there is any way a stock 400EX will do that. Most modded 400EXs are gonna have trouble approaching that speed. After 8000 rpm the power on most 400EXs drops off severely...

Holding it open until it won't rev anymore and actually hitting the rev limiter are two very different things.
