400ex grab bar

how did everyone else put on their aftermarket grab bars?? on a yfz the stock ones bolt on and a hones is welded ona and i need to replace mine cuz i broke it

I've seen a few people cut the old one and weld brackets to hold a new one, some people buy another subframe with the mounts already done, and I've seen people just kind of rig the new grab bar up over the old one...

yes i had the same problem w/ my 400 when i bought it the grab bar was broke offf. So i cut the sub frame so they were equal and ran a 5/16 drill bit down em to clean em out then i bought some 5/16 solid round stock and had that milled in 1/4" and 2 1/4" down. Then i took a piece of 1/4" flat iron that was 2 1/4" long and wellded it in, marked and drilled my holes, tapped the holes and had a custom grab bar made, slid the solid round stock into the frame, sqaured it all up and welded the brackets into the frame, painted it and it looks like it was stock. This might be a little over kill from what u want to do tho..

The best way to go would be have brackets welded onto the sub frame so that it will accept a 450r, or 88-89 250r grab bar. Then if you bend another grab bar, it's just as easy as unbolting the bent one and replacing it. It also gives you the option to run differnt style grab bars. Ex. wide grab bar, 6 pack rack, regular, etc.

I done the grab bar mod on mine .. Ill see if I cant find the pics ..I then went with a Blingstar grab bar after we done the Grab bar mod.

If your on a tight budget, get the Renthals Atv Bend. ;) thats what mine are, mine just has the with a dominator pad cause my other pad was torn up.they have a nice ehight, I just wish they were a straighter bar is all
