I left my house at 6:00am today, had suregry at 9:45 and spent the rest of the time in a bed until 7pm because I COULD NOT PISS lol. i finally did and they let me go home.

dr nachwalter of atlantic spine specialist is one of the best DR's in the nation and if you live in the tri state area and have a back problem USE HIM!!

http://www.atlanticspinespecialists.com/

as some of you know i have been down and out since october I have to thank everyone that felt for me in my time of need without you guys and my friends i dont know if i would have kept such a good outlook.

unfortunately I do not know if i will ever ride again.

my surgery going in had 3 hypothesis

1 i had a sith on my bone and it was pinching my nerve all that would have to be done is grind the sith off.

2 my disc was torn off and pinching my nerve and all they would have to do is fish out the broken piece.

3rd, my herniation was so large they would have to cut my disc to alleviate the pressure, which would be the hardest to recover from.

#2 was the problem and I am very lucky that was my problem.

the only reason i am in pain is because of the cut he had to make to fish out my broken off disc.

All i have to say about having a back problem is DO NOT GO BY WHAT OTHER PEOPLE TELL YOU TO DO. sometimes surgery is not the only answer. but you have to realize alot of people are scared to death of going under the knife and have a biased opinion because of that.

I say this, make sure you research everything yourself and make sure you have all option exhausted before surgery.

EMG TESTS are not nessacary(they stick pins in your back and test reaction time with your leg etc.

from what my doctor told me emgs are painful and MRI's will superceed any positive emg. if the emg is pos and mri is negative they will go by the MRI

i am happy i am done with this, now all i have to do is recover.

i have had a very hard time turning 30 with my back pain and also, on january 14th my father passed away from a heart attack so keeping my spirit high was very hard for me. I cried alot because of my injured state of physical shape andwith my father passing away. this all makes me stronger.

i know i posted this in the R forum but this is the ponly forum i surf on here anymore. so if someone feels like x posting this go right ahead i know not everyone i know surfs inhere and im sure there are fells that would like to know I am ok and hopefully recover 100%

so once again i would like to thank everyone for there support.

harlen you helped me in the begining of all this along with many others i appreciate all of you and love you all.

thanks for reading and take my words about how to figure out if you need surgery very seriously.

thank you all:)

Best of luck to you in your recovery, even if you don't ride (which I hope you do) I hope you don't suffer from back pain anymore. I am also very sorry to hear about your dad. I recently lost the only grandma I have ever had in my life to pancratic cancer and I know how hard it is to lose someone that you are really close to. Best of luck bud.

My mother is having the same problems that you are with her back. She is having a steroid shot, and physical theoropy. Some mornings she cant even get up:eek: I know its bad man, but at least the hard part is over. My father had surgery on his discs, like you had, he can ski, run, basketball, and almost anything he wants now. It took him along time to get to where he was that comfortable.

Look at it this way, now you will have even more time to help me and everyone else who is in over there head:devil:

i hope you have a fast recovery. My aunts Bf just had a herniated disc removed from his back and he is pretty much back to 100% now and its been about a month and a half. Hopefully you will be able to tear it up on the R again.

thanks guys i really appreciate it

this morning it took me like 45 minutes to pull my body out of bed UGHH this recovery process is hard but i know once i get back in shape(i promised myself i would when i turned 30)-like ultimate shape.

my leg pain is gone but the nerve is still sore so i ge speikes occasionally.

i really am not sure if i will ride again.

its kind of a life decision if i mess up my back on my bike by crashing or soemthing (which i rarely ever do) but im sure most of you saw my crash from a while back i walked away with scratches and a bruised elbow that was it. no back pain. but if i have a mishap like that again i could be in severe pain for the rest of my life and wont be able to do the things i want to do to make an empire of wealth. if i ride my bike and hurt myself my dreams may not be full filled.

its all up in the air right now...

i need to think about my future though.

funny thing is i injured my back at work carrying two 40 pound bags, so funny cuz my bike is like 320 330 and never had a back problem on it.

2 stupoid bags tore my disc walkng 5 blocks in nyc to a clients house. what luck haha

\once again though thank all of you for your concern and thoughtfullness.

i will always help out my fellow R riders though!! (or any other quad bike for that matter) ;)

Hey, I still ride a 250r! :blah:

Bee, I'm glad to hear that everything went well, and the surgery didn't introduce any new complications. I'm sorry to hear about your father, but take something from it and get yourself checked and watch your diet as you get further along in the years.. Heart disease has a tendency to run in the family.

Keep us updated on your recovery.

I am now 30 and when I was 28 I had two disks removed and the bones fused together. I was out of commission for a year and a half. You'll be happy to here that I now can ride my 400ex again.
I just have to wear a brace and I can't jump really big anymore, but other than that I can still rip it up on the trails or in the pits.
Just stick to whatever physical therapy they give you. and you should be all right.
Good luck
Steve
