In my opinion Sparks built the best stuff for the real R. I have tried almost all the rest and the Sparks TT and MX pipes are the best performing and fitting.

I would still go with FMF!!!:macho

I love my new FMF!!! It fit worlds better than my ESR TRX5, and has a little better bottom end. I think FMF uses a thinner metal in the pipe construction though.....it's LOUD....you'll definitely be able to hear detonation about a mile away when tuning!! I have no issues there.....anything to help make detonation more audible is a good thing. Overall, I wouldn't trade my FMF pipe back to the ESR for anything.

I cannot say much about PC, other than their powerbands are less than ideal on new 250 2 stroke bikes. I went with a FMF on my RM250 because the PC pipes are known to hurt low end.

Yes, that's true....but I don't think it's possible to get a CS pipe anymore. I tried 6 months ago and just got the run around. For a pipe that's available immediately, the FMF is one of the best all round pipe choices. I would love a Sparks MX though.

Is that an older pipe? Last I looked (recently), Sparks had two different pipes for MX and TT. Did they have one combined pipe previously?

FMF is def. better than pro circiut, and I agree with the majority that Curtis Sparks built the best R exhausts as well as engines. But sadly, I doubt they really care about 250R pruducts anynmore.

Sparks made 3 250cc pipes MX, TT and High Rev. 2 big bore pipes MX and TT. I am pretty sure he will not work on 2 stroke stuff anymore, but I hope I am wrong. I have had a TT pipe on backorder forever it seems.

All the major engine builders I have spoke with, said to stay away from the Sparks MX pipe. They said that it creates an illusion that you're going fast because the bottom end hits so hard, but it actually robs you of power. They said that if I was hellbent on getting a Sparks pipe, the TT pipe is wayyyyy better for motocross. I have heard the most good stuff about LRD. When I get my next pipe, I will most likely go with LRD, but maybe a Sparks TT pipe.

Whoever is giving you info about the Sparks MX pipe robing you of power is dead wrong. I have 2 MX pipes and 1 TT pipe, they are the best R pipes out there. I've had LRD A and B, Pual Turner 89 Race, FMF fatty, Bills, Dyno Port and FTZ superfat pipes, the Sparks BEATS THEM ALL!!!

That was Hetricks that said to stay away from the sparks MX pipe. Both him, and Baldwins said to get the TT pipe if I am going to race motocross.

the mx pipe works amazing for technical tracks, my 265 motor had gobs of power off the bottom up to 3/4 and then died out. its an amazing pipe. the TT is more 3/4 WOT pipe on my 265

put it this way maybe the TT is better but the MX is the 2nd best pipe ever made.

and the big bore MX and TT are on another level.

if you havent ridden them back to back then you cant go by he said she said BS

sure baldwin and hetricks prolly said run the TT pipe but thats because most of the field ran that pipe and if you ran a mx you need a different gear ratio and if your not fast enough the TT will pull a similar ported(national) mx piped motor

an example of power difference

trying to pull a wheelie on the tt pipe is hard cause it has a peaky power band its smooth but only pulls hard from 1.2 to WOT. so pulling wheelies with it is pretty hard unless your doing high speed wheelies. with an mx pip I was able to pull wheelies at the flick of the throttle. its also easier to double/triple whoops with the mx pipe.

I found a DG pipe. R those any good??

DG is not that good. I would run either an LRD and Paul turner pipe!

FMF fatty pipe! That's so cool that you ride a 250r. Do you have any pics?

Where is the split on the sparks pipe? I know the FMF pipe has a short headpipe and splits before the bend. The Duncan Eliminator pipe splits AFTER the bend, right in the middle of the expansion chamber.

the sparks pipes split after the bend around the frame. it splits before the expansion chamber. they say its easiest to put on?

Does the FMF allow a good amount of incresed power???

Jeannie, there are a lot of people that will tell you that FMF pipes suck. Don't listen to them.

In reality, the FMF pipe is a great pipe. It's probably the best "all-around" pipe out there. There are some pipes that are better for certain applications, like hi-rev drag racing, but I don't think there is any pipe out there better for all-around, a general mix of everything. It's got decent low-end, a good mid-range, and allows for decent over-rev.

I run the curtis sparks TT with a 295, and i say.. she rips. I used to run a Paul turner witha 270 PV.. and that ripped too!!! if u could, find a used paul turner or sparks, or ESR... they would be ur best bet.. or even the LRD... thats adjustable.

I love my adjustable LRD, but I also have not tried any other pipe.

i've had fmf, lrd, sparks, and paul turner and for my my riding style i like the lrd the most, its seems to just fit right in with me. Personally i think it is all your own opinion on what you are going to like.

My biggest gripe with my ESR was the fitment. The FMF fits great!! My ESR always leaked between the two sections, as well as at the cylinder flange (even using their fancy O-ring flange!!). With the FMF, they o-ring the joint between the two sections and the cylinder flange is a better fit too......ZERO leaks. The ESR leaked in both spots all the time.

As for power, the FMF feels a little stronger down low than the TRX5, but slightly weaker on the over-rev. All in all, Wilkin250R is correct. It's a GREAT all round pipe.

wilkin250r

Of the dyno sheets that I've seen on the TRX5, they have great over-rev!

Anybody ever see a dyno comparison between the different TRX5 mounting options? They offer a standard mount and a center-mount (which requires removal of the airbox). If they have identical performance, I'm wondering why anyone would ever choose the centermount?

Yeah, I'd say the performance of the FMF pipe is probably a little closer to the TRX6 than the 5. More bottom, not as much over-rev.
