Is a ring compressor needed when replacing a piston on a 2-storke motor?
Its a kx 80 engine by the way...

Not really--I've never used one. It might make it easier though. I always just use my fingers to press the rings into the grooves and have never had a problem. It helps to have three or four hands.

lets see i got about 6 hands at my disposal... so its not needed? and i was looking at pics of them, there only 2 rings? c
cant be that hard from the looks...but then again a back flips doesnt look that hard...:p

You cant use a car one anyways, because the cylinder slides over the piston on these smaller engines, unlike a car where the piston is hammered in through the top.

the manual even says to use your hands
and you wont fit more than a couple fingers in there when you are doing it
but it is easy
