You should have learned after the 1st basket and went with a Hinson.

I am running a hinson ....
but they don't come with cushions. nor do they make them. and you can only get them from honda by buying a new basket and cutting them out...

I came across the same problem 12 months ago – and refused to buy a new basket etc just for the cushion (I also replace the OEM basket/inner hub/P plate with Hinson, unfortunately Hinson does not make cushions for the 04/05 TRX450R)

I orginal tried to get these guys (http://www.uppracing.com) to make some up, like they do for Banshees – but they said not enough people were interested in then to make it worth their while.

Instead I took the warn originals and made up shims our of strips of 0.25mm stainless steel, which I made into C shapes to go between the lugs on the clutch basket and the cushions (i.e. to ‘pack them out’).

It is a delicate operation, you have to be very precise in cutting the skims and you have to push them in one at a time, making sure everything is well greased (I used a mix of molybdenum and engine oil).

The end result however was a tight fitting basket that did a whole season’s XC racing with no problems.

my cushions actually break into pieces though.
this is the fourth time.
for inner hub and pressure plate I run a stm/fmf Controlled Engine Braking clutch (slipper clutch).

Just for future reference for anyone who has read what I did above with the shims. By accident came across this the other day when looking for parts for a rekluse system(http://www.rekluse.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=20&products_id=385&osCsid=3c354389ae6885117c1cdcdf933482b6)

It looks as if Rekluse make up something similar – this is a UK site, but all the parts will be coming from the US. I have not called them to confirm – but for anyone who finds themselves in the same position as me, it could provide a cheap fix.

Yes Rekluse sells shim kits for the TRX450. I just installed mine last week and it tightened things up for now.
