the hrc directions inform you to remove the lid,but don't specificly inform you to leave it off, or re-install it.my buddy put his back on,and it wouldn't run very well.so he left it off,and it runs perfect.just my experience.

It all depends on your jetting. You will get more power with the airbox lid off or you can cut holes in the top. With the lid removed you will definately have to jet up!

The HRC kit instructions tell you that you will need to clean the filter more often (because the lid will be off)
it also tells you to remove the holding clips from the airbox (they wouldnt tell you to remove the clips if you where to put the lid back on)
thats just what I got out of it.
the dealership left mine on............... it ran ok but seemed to dog just a bit, I took it off and put on a pro-form K&N w/ pre-filter, now it revs alot quicker.

Lets clarify a little

The main jet in the HRC kit is a 162 not a 168!!

Here's what I do for my air box and no lid... Keeps the filter cleaner much longer. You can oil it and clean just like a normal filter!!!

Keep in mind its dirty and needs to be cleaned, Since I just had a race Sunday and it was muddy...

Shawn, you should try an EHS lid. I love mine. Easy to clean and I just put my stock lid back on when I pressure wash after a race.

Shawn, that is a mess!!! how did you keep from blowing the engine?!!

lol

It looks way worse than it is.

As you can see the red filter caught nearly everything, The inner filter is still pretty blue. there is hardly any dirt on it..

With a EHS lid its just a outerwear. This is actual air filter foam, When lubed and the seat is on its a seal you can go into water up to the top of the air box and not water the filter and stall it.. A ton of the Gncc guys do the same set-up...

Nothing compares.

where did you get the foam?
and how did you attach it?

Gt Thunder sells the foam $20 and I use 3m General adhesive...

K&N sells a airbox lid with K&N filter incorporated in it and there web page says it comes with a pre charger to go over it. I thought that would be the best set up for muddy woods riding. I see they do not sell for 06 models yet though? If you get a chance check it out on K&Ns website and tell me what you guys think?? i may buy one. dont want to trash my motor or restrict it. i like the power the hrc kit has . its perfect. but i do not want the air box open either.

I dont care for K&N filters.but thats my opinion... Nothing works as good as a foam filter in my opinion.. The outer red filter catches 80% of everything therefore you havce a good clean filter inside.. You would cut your filter cleaning down tremendously with this set-up versus any other!

There is a reason Bill ballance, His brother Brandon, Johnny G and a bunch of other PRO racers use the same set-up.Thats who I learned it from!!

what do you attach the foam to? do you cut the top of your airbox lid open and spray the 3m to that then just fasten the airbox lid? do you spray the 3m right to the airbox and wrap the foam around the side's of your aibox? can really see in the picture.

On a 05 you can just glue the foam to the lid its pretty flat.. The foam stays on the top of lid just cut out the lid enough for the foam to attach..

The 06 lid sucks! Its not very flat so I cut ou the lid and ground the plastic flat to have a good edge to glue the foam too..

I would get ya more pics but the Quad is Sold now..

i have an 06
ok so cut out a hole in the lid similar to the size in the picture you posted, grind the lid flat, then glue the foam to the lid, then snap the lid on the air box right?

With the foam on top of the lid as a barrier wouldnt this cause more restriction??? in turn have to rejet my hrc kit set up? I like the power and do not like the idea of going down in jet size? thanks for any opinions. i am currently trying to attached pre filter material on top of my cut out lid (06)to keep debri out but if there is a better way to keep water and debri out of my airbox for harescrambles i am definately interested? thanks for your input shaun.

No it will be fine,I had the HRC kit as well, I have actually went richer than the HRC jetting..

Your still sucking alot of air the foam is breathable just like a filter..
