For the third round of the ITP Quad Cross, we headed to the “Grand Canyon State” otherwise known as Arizona.

The track we would be competing on was off highway 85, and was called “Arizona Cycle Park”.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:31 PM
The track had a great lay-out, which was kind of long, but it consisted of many straight aways, a few jumps, and some woops.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:33 PM
The track sits in pretty much what we would call a hole. The dirt was dug out , when highway 85 was built. Which made it very convenient to put a track in, because where ever you are standing at you can pretty much see the entire track.

Although this was the first time quads had ever been on this track, it was definitely wide enough for passing, and there where a few different lines out there, which also made it very nice.

ACP (Arizona Cycle Park) even had the trophies made for this round, or should I say plaques. They even had this banner made, and up on the stage where they do the podiums at.

There where many riders, such as Doug Eichner, who came out early to practice, as the track closed down and only allowed quads on the track.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:39 PM
Dennis Capogni was washing his quad after a long day of practice on Saturday.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:42 PM
This was Jason and Corry Weller’s set up for the weekend.

04-03-2006, 03:47 PM
It was time to race, and the riders suited up and headed out for practice.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:50 PM
Here is Doug Eichner out for a few laps in practice.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:52 PM
Jeremy Headlee, who was going to try his first time racing two classes, was out to get some practice in.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:54 PM
Here is Dustin Nelson demonstrating to us, the hardest jump on the track, which was the up hill triple step up.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 03:55 PM
You know that this is a very long jump, when you are able to take a sequence shot of eight pictures while he is in the air.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:00 PM
But it was time for the pros to race, and everyone headed down to the gate, with the exception of Jeremy Schell, and Dana Creech, who where not in attendance at this race.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:01 PM
The pros lined up and not too much longer, the gate was dropped.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:03 PM
It was the number 222 rider, Cyle Chislock the grabbed the holeshot, followed by Dustin Nelson.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:04 PM
But it was not very long before Nelson made the move around Chislock to take over the first place position.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:06 PM
The third, fourth, and fifth position was a close battle with Jeff Spooner in front of the number 96 rider Ricky Nickell, and Doug Eichner was running in the fifth spot.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:08 PM
And Mike Machado was running in the sixth spot.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:09 PM
Eichner was able to make the pass around Nickell, and now set his eyes on making the pass on Spooner.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:11 PM
Eichner was able to make the pass, and immediately put some distance between them.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:11 PM
But it was Nelson who was able to grab the first moto win, followed by Cyle Chislock in the second place position, and Dour Eichner in third.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:15 PM
The second moto of the pros where lined up and ready to race.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:16 PM
And Nelson had a great jump off the line, but Chislock was not to far behind.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:18 PM
And we were not to sure who quite got the holeshot, it looked at if Dustin Nelson was slightly ahead.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:19 PM
But the two riders came in a little too close to each other, and it looked as it Chislock was going to get the worst of it.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:21 PM
But it was Nelson who went tumbling side ways, and Chislock preformed a nose wheelie for us.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:22 PM
Nelson looked somewhat like superman as both him and his quad went flying through the air. Shortly after this Chislock looks backwards, because he has no idea what just happened.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:24 PM
A few of the other riders also got tangled up in the mess as Nelson was rolling on the ground.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:26 PM
Here Chislock is shown looking backwards still trying to figure out what is going on.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:27 PM
And is was Ricky Nickell who was quick to get out front.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:28 PM
Nelson was quick to get back to running his quad, but he had lost his kill switch and it took him awhile to find it on the ground.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:30 PM
These three riders, Rafael Guzman, TJ Dietrich, and Mike Machado, also where caught up in this commotion.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:32 PM
This was the second gate in the pro classes. This was the Open Pro class which consisted of three riders. Larry Heidler, Harris Davis, and Darrel Patton.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:33 PM
Ricky Nickell was in the lead, but Eichner was not too far behind.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:34 PM
Here is a picture of the distance that was between Nickell and Eichner. As you can see, it was not very much.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:36 PM
Dustin Terry was running in the third spot, but the most amazing part was that it looked as if he would finally finish a race, and on his own quad. Terry has had some bad luck this year, and we are glad to see that he is finally able to compete with the top guys.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:37 PM
Nelson was on the move, and closing the gap between himself and the rest of the riders.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:39 PM
Here is Darrel Patton shown racing his son’s blaster, with a broken arm.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:40 PM
Eichner tried to make the move around Nickell over the step up, but he was not able to do so.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:41 PM
But shortly after Eichner was able to make the move and take over the lead.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:43 PM
But Ricky Nickell never came around for the next lap. It seems he had blown his rear shock, which caused his pivot bolt to break, which also cracked the cases. It looked as if Nickell would have to be towed off the track.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:44 PM
Eichner went on to take the win for the second moto, and also take home his first win of the series with the overall and a 3-1 finish.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:46 PM
Jeff Spooner was able to hold onto the third position and Nelson had made his way into the fourth spot. Cyle Chislock rounded out the top five for the second moto.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:48 PM
Even with Nelsons crash in the second moto, he still managed to take a home a second place finish for the weekend. Although Nelson is still in the lead for the first place position with 67 points, Doug Eichner is now in second with 63 points, and Cyle Chislock is in third with 45 points for the series.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:50 PM
Here is Dennis Capogni, who took the win for the 2&4 Stroke expert class at the last race. Capogni had some problems with his front breaks in the first moto, and had to switch to his other bike in the second moto, which he isn’t as comfortable on.

quadchick01
04-03-2006, 04:53 PM

quadchick01
04-05-2006, 04:53 PM
Christy McGuffin, another girl who is banging bars with the boys this year took second place. We are glad to see these girls out there teaching the boys how to ride.

quadchick01
04-05-2006, 05:02 PM
