Hi Guys,

I'm new to quads. Been Sledding for years and just found a nice Quad that I'm going to buy. It's a 1995 Honda 300ex. Great shape, no bends or broken plastic. It has reverse and electric start and is stock. He wants $2800 CND for it. Is this a good quad? I'm not into jumping or racing or modding. I just want to cruise around on the trails. Can it handle a bit of mudding, small hills, etc? Anything to look out for on this model? It's totally stock. Can you add stuff like a rack or running boards, or a hitch to it?

Thanks,

First of all welcome to the site.:D

The 300ex is a great quad for all around trail riding and it's super reliable. The only major thing I can think to look for is the swingarm pivot bolt. If not kept well lubed they will seize in the swinger and they are a pain to remove. Not sure about the price since I'm not up on the Canadian exchange rate. The 300ex is excellent for hills and light mudding but ground clearance limits them in mud. You can get racks for them but they don't look very good and I wouldn't put much weight on them. You can get a hitch for them as well. i have one for mine and I can move a 1000 pound trailer around the yard pretty easily but I wouldn't make a habit of it. Not the greatest for the clutch. You can get almost anything you want/need for these quads. It sounds like a small utility quad might suit you better though.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not planning to put a rack on it, I was just wondring if they were available. Same with the hitch. This thing is just meant to go cruising the trails and playing around on and I dont plan to do any hauling or anything with it. I'm glad to hear that they are reliable. What price would this be worth in the US?

Thanks,

Yeah. I don't even keep the hitch on mine. I just bolt it on if i need it. I would say they range from $1600-$2000 U.S. depending on the condition. It really is a great play/trail quad. I have had mine since 2001 and have had zero issues with it.

I would also make sure to check for any play in the rear axle. The carrier bearings tend to go south after a while. It's a fairly cheap and easy fix though and it's pretty much normal for any quad. Good luck.

I would say they are good for mudding. I picked my 01 up for 1800 and all it had was douglus wheels and DG Nerfs.
