Ok, I need help!!! I read in one of the threads that a guy put a #42 pilot jet in his 300ex and it cured his cold start issue. Well, I called my Honda dealer hoping to be able to buy a #42 and try it. Well, all they have is a #38 which is already in there and a #45. Will the #45 be too much? I want to cure the problem but I don't want to start other ones. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

C&D should have the 42 pilot you need. You may eve want to try a 40 pilot. My local dealer didn't have any when I went either. Actually they rarely have what I need. I put a 42 in mine and it really helped with me cold start issues but I still have to use the choke if it's much below 45 deg. or so.

I can't even start in the summer with the choke on. It is really hard to start. Takes me like 3 or 4 minutes of cranking & tapping the throttle to get it fired up.

Yeah. That sound about how mine was acting. It was better in warm weather but still not right. It was MUCH worse when the temps were below freezing though. 42 pilot fixed it right up. You will still have to play with the mixture screw though. If it stumbles/bogs just off idle at all after the 42 pilot you may be too rich and might need the 40 pilot instead. I suspect mine is a tad rich with the 42 but it isn't enough to cause it to stumble.

Oh and I'm almost positive the 45 would be too much.

I just put a 40 in my wifes 300ex and it works great. You still use the choke to start but you can turn the choke off a lot sooner. I would start with the 40.
