What exactly are satellite speakers?

Just what that title says. Are they completly wireless??? I would think they are...does the reciever just send out the signal for the speakers or what??

Satellite speakers are usually just small speakers used for front main speakers or surrounds. They are not really capable of full range sound and are intended for use with a subwoofer. Some can be wireless but usually not.

This has already been said but satellite speakers are the smaller speakers used for surround systems. They were given the name "satellite" because their positioning around the listener.

Speakers like the Bose201/301 are called bookshelf speakers because of their typical placement. :
