if you have an old clutch plate, you can weld a bar that runs throu the slots in the basket. works great. cheep.
if you dont do that, just put a bigger impacton there.

all i did was put it in gear hold down on the foot brake with my leg wedged underneath the tire and it came loose.

stuff a shop towel in between the basket weaves and inner hub...this will stop it from truning..make sure u bend the safety tab back and let the impact do the rest...it will eventually come off

take your old plates to make a holding tool, very simple. two friction plates with a steel in between, bolt them together and that will lock the inner "hub" to the outer "basket". then stick a copper washer in the gears as you attempt to remove the nut. This works for a motor with a counterbalancer(250R). I have yet to do a clutch on a 400Ex, but I believe the principle is the same. Or.... use an impact.

with it in fith gear...you can hold the sprocket with a glove and use impact and it will come right off....

What i did is took a pressure plate placed in in the outer basket(where it goes) and used 2 pairs of Vice Grips one across fron the other and used and impact wrench. No welding and you can reuse the plate.
