99 vs 06 400EX

Ok, here is the deal. I have been wanting to get a 4-wheeler for a while, but I cant decide on which. I know its a drastic difference, but I want actual owners opinion's on it. I have a friend that has a 99 400ex, great condition, hasnt really been rode that much. He wants $2500 for it, is that a good deal or should I try to get it cheaper?

I also went to the Honda dealer on Friday looking at the 06 model. I really like the fact that they come with reverse, so thats a big plus for that. I can probably get one from them for a little over $5k out the door if I pay cash.

My question is, what are the major difference's and which one would you go for? I mainly ride trail's, it gets muddy in some places...but I can always go around the deeper ones. There are quite a few woods trail's, but mainly wide open powerlines and old timber road's. I sure do appreciate any advice in advance.

2,500 for a 99 is a little steep.

I got my 2000 for 2,200 with helmet and gloves.

im nto a fan of the 05 or 06 400ex and the whole reverse thing mynes an 04 i dont Never hardly need reverse

After doing some reading, I think I am going to go for the 99 and also buy a 4X4. I am going to offer him less, and see how it goes. It is bone stock engine wise, and has a new battery and tires.

i just picked up a 99 400ex off a friend for a grand. has a new sprocket on the front whole new rear end and hmf pipe. id say get a new 450r their badass.
