Leonardtown, MD - ATV Motocross Racer have flocked to the southern tip of Maryland this weekend for Round #5 of the ATVA National Motocross Series, and the parking lot is packed with trailers and motor homes, which means attendance for the events appears to be up from last year without any official numbers as of yet.

The weather for the weekend is forecasted to be perfect for racing with temps in the 70’s and chance for some desperately needed rain in Maryland as this is the driest March on record, so a rain shower should help with the dust.

The Budds Creek track is like a roller coaster ride with constant elevation changes as the track is almost like a big bowl with track zigzagging its way up and down the hillside, and it is one long track at easily over 1.5 miles long. Besides the hills, there are some fairly large table top jumps and a huge up hill double, which only the Pros have attempted this weekend.

While "G-Money" Flagger soaks up the sun, this amateur rider took to flight on his Honda as the two table tops in the valley send the riders easily over 15 feet high into the air before landing over 60+ feet on the downside of the tabletop if all goes well.

The current points leader and National Champion, John Natalie Jr took to flight on his first lap practice over the first of two table tops back to back with a 90 degree turn in between this dynamic pair

Admin
03-31-2006, 07:07 PM
Upon landing, Natalie Jr snapped his axle which sent his tire springing back up into the air as john skidded to a stop.

The expression on his face says it all as he asked himself, why can’t RPM provide me with Dominator 2 Axles instead of the regular Dominator Axles? I told his mechanic, Dee, that he needs to step up his program to get the premium axles, lol

After a disappointing Echeconnee, #270 Josh Creamer was planning on putting in some Motos to prepare for Budds Creek, and he looked really comfortable in Practice.

Admin
03-31-2006, 07:22 PM
The Canadian, Richard Pelchat had his worst weekend of racing in his career at Echeconnee after one misfortune after another, and he is hoping his bad luck is behind him at Budds Creek.

He definitely looked confident as he was the first Pro to attempt the massive up hill double at the end of the first practice section

Admin
03-31-2006, 07:25 PM
Pelchat launching the uphill double while a crowd of Pros gather to watch and learn as they begin lining up to make their attempt at the uphill monster.

Joe Haavisto finally has received a full clothing deal from Fly Racing, so we no longer have to takes bets or wagers on the brand gear he will show up with in practice or for the Pro Race, and with the lime green gear really stood out from the crowd.

Admin

Joe Haavisto was also sporting a new hood from Generation X this weekend, which I thought was pretty slick looking on the 450R

It didn't take Keith Little long to start using Tireballs after flat tire in Florida cost him some valuable points, and he talks with Wade at Tireballs about how the balls are working for him.

Donny Banks made the 12 hour trip up for Georgia to help Jonathan Beasley with preparing the track this weekend, and it looks like they were both having a good time.

Well folks, I am finished for tonight, and I will provide more updates tomorrow night along with Day One Results.

Admin
04-01-2006, 07:53 PM
Well, today was one long day with practice starting at 8AM with the LCQ races lasting to dusk, and they wil still need to run several more yet tomorrow morning to narrow down the classes for the 20 rider second Motos.

The first race out of the gate today was the Pro AM Production Class Heat 1 immediately followed by Heat 2

The battle for the Holeshot was between Cale Downen and Matt White

Admin
04-01-2006, 07:56 PM
Jesse Sheaffer held the inside line and was out near the front for the start of the race

Admin
04-01-2006, 07:59 PM
The start of Heat 2 had John Natalie Jr grabbing the Holeshot. He decided to signup for Pro Am Production after he snapped his axle in practice on Saturday

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:00 PM
Hot on the heals of Natalie Jr was Jason Dunkelberger followed by Thomas Hager.

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:02 PM
Brock Lyons flipped on his lid while Rodney Gentry was spun around backwards on the start of the Heat 2.

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:08 PM
Matt While took over the lead from Cale Downen with Hunter Miller moving into 3rd Place before he would wreck, which left him with a broken femur, which now has both the Miller Brothers out for most likely the remainder of the season since Cody broke his leg in Florida.

We wish the Miller’s a speedy recovery

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:11 PM
Cale Downen would take back over the lead followed by Matt White

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:19 PM
John Natalie would lead the first lap, but then he let off and allowed Josh Upperman to pass him for the lead as they played cat and mouse around the track.

Natalie Jr's mechanic, Dee, was sweating bullets because he was originally only planning on him doing a lap or two, and he didn't want him to stress the engine for the Main on Sunday, but obviously John was having too much fun to pull off.

Josh Upperman does a look back on Natalie Jr over the huge step up known as the "Big Gulp"

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:21 PM
Matt White would regain the lead and take the win over Cale Downen in Heat One. Cale was launching up the “Big Gulp”, but in the Main he would snap his axle on the jump, which gave him a DNF.

Josh Upperman would win the Heat 2 closely followed by John Natalie Jr.

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:28 PM
Heather Byrd easily took the win in the Women's Production Class with Angela Butler on Vacation and Alex Kirchner out with a broken Arm.

Travis Spader is hoping for just a little better luck this weekend

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:45 PM
911 Steve Runkel was wishing for some better luck when he cased the step up which split open the inside of his lip, which left him watching the rest of practice, and he will most likely need stitches, ouch!!!

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:46 PM
Tavis Cain had another good race in Georgia as he is off to a great start in 2006

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:49 PM
Gil Attix was looking to qualify this weekend, but it was obvious in practice that he wasn't ready to jump right back into Pro after missing the first few races of the season

Admin
04-01-2006, 08:50 PM
Jason Luburgh was skying the step up with ease, and if he can only keep it together for two Motos, I expect to see him on the Podium this year

Pat Brown went through all his shock travel landing the “Big Gulp”

Admin
04-02-2006, 06:27 AM
A few laps later, Chad Wienen had taken over the lead after working his way up through the pack in one impressive charge to the front

Admin
04-02-2006, 06:31 AM
Like a train, the rest of the Pros remained bunch together with Chad Wienen in the lead followed by Tim Farr, Richard Pelchat, Harold Goodman, Jason Luburgh, Pat Brown, and Rocco Arno Jr in the final qualifying position and closely followed by Trent Kandel

Admin
04-02-2006, 06:33 AM
Chad Wienen would take the win with the rest of the class remaining the same except for Harold Goodman making the pass on Richard Pelchat to take over third.

Admin
04-02-2006, 06:37 AM
Pro LCQ

Jeremiah Jones would put his Suzuki LTR450 out front with the Holeshot, and he would be on a mission the entire moto

Admin
04-02-2006, 06:39 AM
By the end of the 1st lap, Jones already held a several second lead over Josh Creamer and Travis Spader battling for the second spot with only the top three heading to the Main

Admin
04-02-2006, 06:45 AM
Gil Attix wouldn't make the Pro Main, so it will be seen if he signs up for the Pro Am Unlimited race today.

Now that the stage is set for the Pro Main, I am going to head out and capture the racing action this Sunday Morning, and check back at 12PM for some live updates of the Pro 1st Moto.

Matt White first around the track, he finished 9th in the first moto.

Track conditions have not improved since the first moto, it is very rough and riders are showing concerns in some areas. The weather is nearing the mid 70's, clear sky's and plenty of sunshine.
