In anticipation of his new MX quad, I set out to add some bigger jumps for Cody.

He came home from school and geared up...I reckon he did not want to wait:chinese:

Pappy
03-31-2006, 01:01 PM
He pulled down to size things up

Pappy
03-31-2006, 01:02 PM
I had not had a chance to build a down ramp yet, but he figured he would be ok.

A few runs up to the lip to get a feel for the take off

Pappy
03-31-2006, 01:03 PM
A couple of moments to mentally size things up as it were. He said he thought he had better wait for more suspension:chinese:

Pappy
03-31-2006, 01:04 PM
I kept standing in my spot, and when heard him click 3rd gear i knew it was on:D

Pappy

Its around 30 feet that he is jumping, and roughly 8 feet high. When its finished he should see 40 foot out of it with a nice landing

Wow. That's one heck of a jump for a mini. Looks like he's really pushing the limits of the 90 now. Any pics of him landing? I wouldn't be surprised if he's bottoming out when he lands now.

Pappy
03-31-2006, 01:14 PM
he is hitting bottom being there is no real landing for him. Its so dry here that all you see is a dust ball when he touches down:p

300exOH
03-31-2006, 01:19 PM
Yeah I noticed the cloud of dust on the takeoff. I wish it was that dry here. A few more inches of suspension and he'll really be flying.

Pappy
03-31-2006, 01:19 PM
The dust is wreaking havoc on the auto focus, sorry for teh blurry pics. Not too mention I get a lil'bit nervous when he hits a new jump

Pappy
03-31-2006, 01:22 PM
the 125cc manual clutch engine is doing awesome, he has power and the quick rev's help him a ton now

cody started riding when he was 7 but only in our small yard. once we moved to our new place 3 years ago, he finally had a chance to learn how to ride and has been improving ever since.

yep, and he has had several good wrecks including one where he got crossed up his 35 footer that caused him and the quad to land half OFF the landing ramp, sending both tumbling until they both came to a halt:p

With a landing now, he can adjust his speed and land smooth

the surprise to me was how well he handles the manual clutch! you would think he has been doing it his whole life, feathering, using it to bring the rpm up out of a corner, its pretty wild watching him keep the gas on hard and use the clucth to control forward momentum over rocks and badly rutted section and the occasioanl log i throw in the track:D

How does he do in the GNCC races? Can he hang with that Walker Fowler kid? By the way I wish you were my dad:cool:

Pappy
04-02-2006, 11:17 PM
Cody finished 5th in 2005 in the 90cc production class(and he missed the last round), besting Walker at the Steele Creek round. Walker has a few years expierence on almost every other youth rider and it shows. Being fast doesnt always equal a win, but when you combine expierence and speed you have a champion...ie Fowler.

On even quads, it would make for a tire grinding race. On the MX track, Cody will smoke him.(I say that because Walker doesnt do mx haha) Now put Fowler on a bike and its a different story, the kid is amazing.

Cody played by all the rules last season...competed against alot of quads that were not 90cc, and faired well even tho he was under-gunned as it were. If we could have this set up....it would make for an interesting race in the woods no matter what youth rider you bring.(not being conceeded, i just know what the boy can do)

We are just out to have fun, nothing more at this point. But I am sure that in the near future we will heat things up and he can make a name for himself if he so chooses. The Koontz series is getting heated up...and thats where CJ will get some racing in this year, along with his quest to secure a district mx championship. dont worry, ill be sure to take everyone along for the ride as i get full coverage no matter how he finishes!

Ken tell Cody great job. We miss you all at the GNCC Nationals. I can't wait to get Michaels new Honda built to handle jumps like that. I'm now a true Honda lover. These trx's are tuff. I can't believe it takes the jumps with the stock suspension.

It really shows in a kids riding when they have their own track in their yard. I wouldn't live in a place where your front yard isn't pit road for your kids!

Pappy
04-03-2006, 06:14 PM
We miss seeing everyone at the Nat's also:( but money is tight and we have to stay closer to home this year.

We will be at the Koontz Race this sunday for the MX at R&D....Im waiting on a call from Paul to see if they will let cody run this quad in a mini class or if he has to run the 91cc-300cc 4 stroke class. I think he will do good in either:p

Once again, thank you all for your support of my riding. Hopefully I will continue to progress and be safe. I am thankful to live where I do and to have a track to ride on.

The new jump is really fun, with a really long approach compared to some of my others. I am hitting it in thrid gear about mid throttle, the new 125 has alot of grunt. Hopefully my new bike goes together nicely and we do not run into any problems. I can not wait to hit jumps on the new quad with my new shocks and a arms.

Have fun

Yeah they have a mod class but there is hardly anybody in it. Usually only 1 will show up and that is Dallas Tapscott not sure if you know him or not. They said last year that they were doing away with the mod class but they still let them run when they show. You guys should come down this weekend.

I'll tell Michael what you said. He was talking about you this past National in NC. He said he missed racing with you. He got a magizine there and saw your big picture in the Elka add. Looked good.

Keep up the good work and please ride smart and safe. I will never forget the time you stoped during a race and rescued Michael from under his quad.
