I just rebuilt my 04 450r with new piston, rings, valves, timing chain and its super hard to kick. Its worse than a yfz450 dirtbike. It goes down couple inches or 2 then hits a hard spot and you have to jump up and down to get it to go on down. It runs great nuthing was put back together wrong thats affecting performance, any ideas?

if you put a piston in that has alot of compresion like 13:1 that is probalby why it is so hard

Recheck your timing and decompressor clearance. What ever you do, don't jump on the kicker. If you're shure the timing is right, turn the motor over by hand with a wrench. A high compession piston will not make it that hard to kick.

yeah either your timing or valves are wrong.

your decomp is adjusted wrong

I agree. Recheck your decompression arm clearance.

Alright, Ill check the decomp clearance, but the valves are adjusted correctly and even if they were adjusted tight, then the motor would have less compression cause the valves wouldnt be closing all the way making it even easier to kick so its not the valves,It had a 13:1 je in it before the rebuild, now it has a new 13:1 je so thats not it either. Its not the timing, the motor is to powerful and runs to smooth.

I just put my 04 motor together w/ a je 13:1 and a hc2. Its is just a bit tighter than stock. I can start it sitting down w/ one kick cold. Do a compression test. Kick it over untill the compression gauge stops moving. You shouls have about 80psi with the carb off. It sounds like a decompression problem. Mine is set at .015 th. and my exhaust valves are at .011th and the intake at .006th.
maybe this will help.

Alright I'll do that, my exhaust valves and intake are at .01 clearance. I've got another 450r in the garage that can be started sitting down. I still havnt checked the decomp clearance im going to later today. I usually set it at .022 clearance.
