Hey does anyone know what the deal is with the different headpipes found on some of the 250x/300ex models? I have an 87 250x and my dad has an 88 250x, and we have different headpipes. My pipe is a little larger diameter, no headshield, and goes inside of the frame downtube. My dad's pipe is a bit smaller, with a headshield, and loops around the frame downtube. Both are stock appearing and painted factory black. I have seen both types on bikes on this forum, but just wondered why the two different styles (different power curve possibly?). Any insights that anyone can give me would be appreciated.

Your pipe is an aftermarket header.

The stock header is a very small diameter header that goes out from the head and around the front side of the first downtube. Has the heatshield with welded on standoffs.

If he has a larger diameter one that turns before it hits the tube, it's an aftermarket header that someone most likley painted high temp black.

I beleive the 250x's all had the same header from the factory.
