Just have it all powdercoated...paint will chip and flake easy. check out BK Performance. Many pleased members on this site.

To not do it at all, it might look good at first but after your first ride and good washing it will look like crap. Any place that the frame flexes just a little, the paint will chip and keep peeling. You will regret doing it, if you really want it a different color do like he said and get it powder coated.

hummmm ...i just stripped my frame and mine was just paint from the factory....and mine is an 2002 and only noticed peeling on a-arms and a few spots on frame ....so why did the factory paint last 4 years with so lil problems?? just asking why it cant last another 4 years with just paint ? ....powder coat is nice but pricey and heavy and just dont see the difference...4 years with paint is fine to me .....

LOL...powdercoat adds no more weight to a part then paint does.

And your factory parts are coated with paint that you are unable to buy over the counter. Spray can, even most paint used in automobile applications will not look nor last as good as powder will. Ive seen and redone frames that have been painted from rattle can to frames that have been painted using almost all available paints on the market and none have met the owners expectations. The sad part is, pre paint prep is the leading failure of most paint jobs, followed by too thick of an application. You will not match powdercoat no matter how many coats you try to apply:p

i painted the frame of my 400 last summer, i painted it all black, i striped it down real good and primed it with black primer, i accually used spray paint from dollar general, it accually came out really nice, it held up for the 4 months of riding i did till i sold it, it didnt peel anyware just a few small chips on the a-arms. after i painted it i put a good coat of wax on it. i know this sounds stupid and it cant be true. but that is seriously what i did and it came out great i think i spent about $20 total i took ALOT of time preping and sanding it took me about 2 weeks to do it.
