metal chip on filter

i found some small metal chip on my oil filter today!!!
what can it be??? is it normal??
i have an 05 and change my oil every 10hrs...

I'm not sure but from what I've read it is probably a crank bearing going bad.

Probably the lower rod bearing. I've had mine go twice, the first time I noticed nothing but the most recent time there were a few metal shavings in the filter before it went. if it's under warrantee run that thing until it blows you'll get more free stuff that way. If it's not I would recommend pulling it apart now and save you're self some money and headache.

i wonder what's causing the faillure and if they gone fix it with the exact same part ,hope my dealer can find better design bearing or crank

they ordered a cheaper bearing for a cheaper price and thought it would hold up, not like honda BUT they are warrantying them and it does indeed sound like what is happening to yours. They usually go out within the first 15 hours of ride time and you will usually see metal on the oil filter right before they go out.

i have my R for over a year and a half now
still can't figure it out:grr: it's giong to the dealer next wendsday
i want to know the reason of this and the real solution to it

how worried should i be? I just bought a left over 05 about 2 months ago and probably only have 5 hrs on it. i will be pissed if the crank bearing goes out when it is out of warrenty

I think it might have been making the noise for a while but with the exaust i couldnt hear it. I had to put the stock pipe on when i went someplace to ride and the noise was louder than the stock pipe.

good news!!!
the chips i found on my filter were made of alluminium ...not metal so they weren't coming from any bearings...but from a crapy helicoil someone had made for me ... all the engine parts were fine ,piston, bearings ,crank...;)
