Well I was gonna say ranger until I saw the ford thing, but you should look into an older yota. Might be out of your price range though.:ermm:

Jeep Comanche!

The Inline 6 is just as good if not better than a V6:D

a 4x4 comanche is hard to come by, but great little trucks.

It really depends on what you want. You can pick up a nice s-10, older yota, ranger, or even fullsize Chevy for about that price. But what do you consider "decent on gas"? 15mpg? 20+? a4wd 'yota will get around 20, while an S-dime will get about 17-20. You cant kill the yota motor, but the frame and body will rust out easily. on an S-10, the frames are good, body does have some cancer issues, and the paint tends to peel and the motor is pretty good.

Dont forget Nissan. i love mine and i've fit 2 quads in back before. and thats WITH a diamond plate toolbox taking up about 1/4 of the bed. They're pretty good on gas too. my 4 banger 4x4 get above 20 most of the time. the V6 isn't much worse.

Chevy s-10 zr2, I plan on getting one. Pops had one and it was a bad little truck! 4.3 vortech v6, 3 inch suspension and 1 or 2 inch lift from the factory with 31's I belive.

I don't know what it would run $$wise in the states but I love my Taco mine is a 98 but you might find one a little older for your price range. 200,000 km and not one prob not even brake pads.
that would be 125,000 miles

I had a 94 zr2 reg cab when I was 19 I am not sure what I miss more the truck or being 19. the reg cab looks better but the extra cab on my taco is def a nice touch

i have a dodge dakota... i love it..

well i didnt see any objections do a dodge dakota, about 15-17 on gas, if you get the v-6, 4wd dakota's arent hard to come by, if you get the older body style, that boxy lookin kind, you could probly pick one up for around 3 grand, maybe less, depending on year, and how many miles...

they last a long time too, my neighbor has had his 94 dakota, 4wd from new, with regular pm it's been goin on 250,000, not one engine or suspension problem

cousin has a 97 with 150,000... same deal, we just did ball joints but that was the most extensive work that has needed to be done to it....

my input would be a v-6:
s-10
ranger *they get EXCELLENT gas milage* even though you dont like ford... which i dont see why not great tucks ;)
or a dakota

IF you get a silverado, get atleast a 1996 with the Vortec engine. The older TBI and carb engines gas milage sucked. I only got about 10MPG out of my 1992 GMC with a 350. the Vortc has more HP and gets about 15MPG, my buddies gets about 16-17 around town and he has gotten 19 on the highway before with it, but it is a 1997 with a 305. The S-10 are great, but a ZR2 is usually a little pricy. Every 4.3 i have seen gets about 17 MPG. A yoter get good milage. A 4-banger will easily get over 20 everwhere and a V6 will get right at 20, possibly a little lower.

if u get a dakota go with a 5 speed. The autos in the dakota are terrible and blow every 60k miles or so, 40k if u beat on em. I would not get a v-6 silverado, they're slow due to the weight, theyr'e alright for gettin around town, but if plan on wheelin with it, which i assume u do because u want a 4wd, it'll just dog down on every hill and if u put big tires and lift it it will slower than a 4 banger s-dime. IMO go with an older yota, they're really reliable, or an s-10. The 4.3 make good power and get decent gas mileage in the s-10, better than in the silverado due to the weight, and the bodies of s-10's are really good.

dont talk if u have no clue what ur talking about...
my dad has a 95 dodge dakota and has only done minor repair to it (at 120,000 miles on it) and the most hes ever replaced on it was the tires!!

dont get the wrong idea about the dakotas, the autos are great, never "blow" or anything like that

03-29-2006, 02:34 PM
toyota 4 cylinder 22re or a 6 cylinder toyota engine...mine has 320,000 miles now. they stopped making these trucks because they never broke down and toyota was losing money from making them is what ive heard
