jw if it is worth wrapping my exhaust for the burn factor when i ride with shorts on in the rain and slide doing donuts and now i have a scar on my leg but does it help to get all the heat out the muffler and not the pipes?? is it hard to clean liek if u get it went when ur washing a quad will it effect the performance of exhaust wrap??

I had exhaust wrap on my headpipe for about a year or so and it caused the pipe to rust very bad. It traps too much moisture. When I removed the header tape the pipe underneath was really flaky and deeply pitted. I would suggest a good heat shield instead.

They sell a silicone based spray paint specifically made to keep moisture from soaking the exhaust wrap. I used it on my 400EX when I had it wrapped. It does wear off so you have to spray it fairly often. I ended out taking the wrap off because I didn't want to risk rusting out my pipe. The wrap did work really well though..

I didn't know they made a paint for header tape. It still seems like moisture would still get underneath the wrap though.

Summit sells the spray.. here's a link to it.Summit Racing (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DEI%2D010301&N=115+400384&autoview=sku)

You're right, I think that there's still the potential for the pipe to rust, the spray just prolongs it from happening.

Yeah. That's what I thought. Looks like a good product for street rods with wrapped headers though. It sounds like it could actually be used directly on the pipe itself also even without the wrap.

yep, I've painted a few pipes/exhausts with it and it's held up well.

I tried that before and it will only last about a 1/2 season of riding. It won't help BORY's issue with a burnt leg either. I do wonder if the silicone based stuff from summit would last any longer than the grill paint though.

Get some adhesive heat shield material and put on the plastics between the pipe and the plastics. You can buy it at the auto parts store, or dennis kirk, etc....

it depends what the header is made off. steal will rust. but raping the header helps you rev faster. it keeeps the gases hotter coming out the motor which alows it to flow quicker.
