Hey whats everybody running for chain lube? I tried some of that Blue Label stuff that claims it wont fly off and it wont even come off! All the dirt cakes up on it and Its really hard to get it off. So what should i be using? We have a Raptor and 450r

I use WD-40 and similar products, the key is to use it often before riding and after washing. I use the oring chains in which case the lubricant is sealed inside of the cross links so no amount of grease or wax will add any value to that area.

A silicone spray, such as WD-40, provides a lubricant to the surface areas of the chain without collecting all of the gunk and build up that the heavier lubes do.

Just my opinion.

I was using CASE heavy duty chain lube (it worked really good), now I'm using Castrol O-ring chain lube, seems to work pretty good. I don't worry about the mess the lube leave, grease/oil only prevents rusting(anywhere).

Is there a chain lube that doesn't fling everywhere when you ride, or one that is easy to clean off? I use the bel ray stuff and when you ride is gets all over the side of the motor and the swingarm and then it never wants to come clean.

Do a good cleaning after each ride with kerosene, wipe as dry as possible. Use a small tipped oil can with some straight 40 - 50 w motor oil. Put some paper/cardboard down rotate and let set till next ride. what you really want to do is keep the grease in the pins of the links which is held by the o-rings and lubricate the o-rings so they seal and do not crack. Other than that the chain can run dry on the outside.

If you have an O-ring chain then WD-40 should be fine. Thats all we put on ours and have no problems at all. Don't listen to the people who tell you that WD-40 is the worst thing ever to put on a chain, there is no proof of that. Or use the oil like the post above stated.

Heck yeah, when I'm out and back at the campground WD-40 is the trick in the field....

Bel ray:

It does sling off if you ride it right after you put it on.

If you put it on and let it sit there for about 5 min. it gets sticky and wont sling off. Just my 2 cents.

I've got cans of different kinds of chain lube and they all fling off and gets all over my swinger (even after sitting for days). I've been sticking to WD40 before every ride and after every wash. Heard a few bad things but had no ill-effects here

so u guys say wd40 is good for oring type chains?

Yes. All of the bad stories are BS. They all come from someone who know a guy that had a cousin who used it and his chain flew off. Check out the WD 40 website and it will put all the rumors to rest.

WD- 40 is good stuff, in addition to using it as a chain lube you on a muddy track you can spray down the fenders which will help prevent mud from acumulating.

Anothe brand that I use on the chain from time to time is PB Blaster, which contains a higher percentage of petroleum that WD.

Carb cleaner or Brake cleaner takes the chain lube off your swingarm.

It kills me to have to ask this question. Is a stock honda chain an o-ring chain? Thanks in advance.

Yes the stock chain is an o-ring chain. I think they are D.I.D chains but i may be wrong.

You guys do realize that WD40 is like 40% Kerosene... That will eventually destryoy the Orings, But if you follow it up with oil it wont hurt anything.

But anyway,

I use Silkolene Semi Synthetic....

Not to worry the orings are manufactured from a Nitrile rubber (NBR) which is resistent to Propane, butane, Petroleum oil, mineral oil and grease, diesel fuel, fuel oils, ect.
You do have to be careful using cleaning agents such as Carb and brake cleaner which contains chemicals which will attack NBR as well as other elastomers.

Just My opinion

I have the same thing happen with that Berlay stuff, but when i want to get it off the swingarm or something i just spray wd-40 on it and it wipes right off.

I use belray. We tested it on motorcycles. Even at 200+ mph it wouldnt fling off. It is messy though. I tryed PJ1 Black label and I didnt really like it.
