spark problems

I have an 88 trx 250r with a CT 350 powervalved motor, and it would not start tonight. It started fine yesterday. I drove it into the shop to do some welding on the front motor mount and this evening, after doing the welding, it wouldn't start. I pulled the spark plug out, put a new one in the plug cap and touched it to the frame to see if there was a spark. I cranked the motor over and there would be a spark only every once in a while. I checked all connections and cleaned them ... they looked fine. I pulled the stator cover off and noticed a lot of moisture inside. I cleaned points on rotor and pulse generator with emery cloth. I pulled the ignition coil and CDI box off and put them on my 86 250r to see if they were okay and it started first kick. I'm going to the sand dunes in two days, and I'm a little stressed. I'm worried that I damaged my stator by welding on the frame or maybe the moisture had something to do with it?? Any help??
