Im looking into buying a 250r and I have to get one that will beat my friends. One of them has a Crf250r 4 stroke dirt bike. The other has a yzf450 dirt bike. And the other has a modded trx450r. What engine mods do I need to beat all of them in a something like a 100 yard drag race?

Wow... I have no idea but it's gonna take a lot to beat a dirt bike just from watching the sand drags often...

its going to take alky and most likely a 330kit, some crazy porting, bigger carb, alot of $$ and you better have some skills to pull it together. (250r can be made into a real drag quad but its not where it is at its best) if you want to just beat them in a drag race you may want to think about the quad designed to go straight ahead really fast.

Racing them on a track would be one thing and if you are a good enough rider you could beat them but dragging them would be entire different story. It takes quite a bit of mods to beat a dirtbike dragging especially when they are bigger bikes like the YZF450 you mentioned.

why do you need to beat those bikes in a drag? are you riding for fun and you want to beat them to say that you can beat them? You are going to need some major work and that R will be far from stock. I would say that you will need atleast a 330 to beat that yzf450. But of course my cousins esr330r doesnt come close to my dads crf450R. those bikes are fast

lol ya I figured I probably wouldnt be able to beat the 450 dirt bike but as long as I can pull away frm the Cr250r and the Trx450r i should be good. We ride mostly trails. Sometimes we drag in a field to see who gets bragging rights. Its all for fun but ive had a blaster for along time and have been at the bottom of the food chain and I wanna get on top.

A lot of it depends on what other type of riding you do, and how much money you're actually willing to spend.

It's possible to beat that trx450r with only a few hundred bucks in mods. A crazy high-rev ported cylinder and a custom high-rev pipe would do it, but in order to get that much power from the stock bore size, you need REALLY high revs and a light-switch powerband. It becomes difficult and tiring to ride recreationally.

A bigger bore, like a 330, can give you that kind of power and still have a friendly powerband, but it will be much more expensive. You'll need a completely new cylinder, and they don't come cheap.

cost more than a few hundred to get a 250r to hang with 450r

Would a 310 kit beat a 250f?

Not in a drag race. A screaming high-rev port job and head mods can be had for $300 or so, and another couple hundred for a pipe. It's cheap and dirty, and can't hang with the 450r in the track, but it would leave that 450 sucking exhaust in a drag race.

You could always go with NOS. Might b able to beat'em in one race. However the piston may. . . well no longer b a piston. :blah:

The dirtbikes my be a little hard to beat. Really is depending on the riders skills. If they can even half way ride a bike, your going to need something big. Higly ported 330 pry would do the trick. With hours of fine tunning and one hell of a good holeshot. you might stand a chance.

The 450r on the other hand wont take as much effort. Send the cylinder out to a respectable builder and have it ported and the head milled. Buy a decent pipe and silencer, and that should take care of that matter.

I like Wilkin's "cheap and dirty" idea. Like he said, a few hundred dollars worth of porting and head mods will annihilate a 450 in a straight line but on a track your going to have to spend some money.

The 250R might have been way ahead of it's time but not far enough ahead to beat the suspension quality of that 450.

I don't know what you're gonna do about those bikes. The 250 can probably be beaten with Wilkin's setup but not the 450... If you want to spend some money you could always invest in that monstrous Sabertooth 500cc cylinder. Those things will smash pretty much anything.

I wonder if they could beat a rail in a 1/4th...

Well my 330 runs away from 450s in a drag, but....if your gonna want to beat a bike your probably gonna have to side swipe them. Then when they get up say "Oh man I almost lost it!" Post a vid and let us know how it goes;)
