i got a cobra alloy series slip on really cheap..
is a jet kit worth it for a 400ex. when i built my warrior
i remember alot of people telling me dynojet kits were
no better than just finding the right mikuni jets..
i also was gonna use a uni filter!
last "q" how about a stage 1 cam
can i run it with just these mods...
and is it worth it.. will i see a decent gain from this
cheap package....lol i know its out of the ordinary but
hey ! not everybody has $10,000 to invest. oh and i ride
mx/trails and was thinking of going a tooth bigger on the front
for more speed..

thanks
wes

if youre gonna be on mx/ trails you'd prolly be happier if you go a tooth smaller sprocket......

no it takes speed to get distance on jumps, and i ride open trails.
i just want the power increase so when i up the sprocket
i can keep 1st feeling the same...
thanks though

i think what he was trying to say was on a mx track, top speed won't matter too much. so by dropping a tooth, you get more low end to pull out of corners and such....

you need to rejet for your mods.a stage 1 cam will make a very noticeable difference.i just put one in my bike last night and man what a difference.well worth the 170 bux i payed for it.if you have an 05 or 06 you need a jet kit or get a needle from an older EX as the 05-06 ex needle is not adjustable.if you have an older EX than just hit the dealer and buy some jets.i have the uni filter,HMF slip on and stage 1 hotcam. and love it!!

Sell your cobra and buy some other sort of exhaust . Those are the ****tiest ever made by far ...

If i were you I would get a stage 2 cam. You do loose a little bottom end but i didn't think it was noticeable. The stage 2 cam was well worth it.

a higher compression piston $90 ebay (wiseco)

a stage 1 cam $114 ebay (hotcams)

used 450r carb around $100

450r throttle cable $15 dealer

xr400 head gasket $15 dealer

TOTAL $334 + s/h and a service manual to do it yourself

SERIOUS performance upgrade on pump gas

and you can stay w/ the 16T sprocket because all the torque you just gained

if you dont have an air filter get one

someone on here told me , a 450r carb was only worth it if u have a 440 bb!

a stock 400ex carb is 35.5 mm

a stock 450r carb is 42mm

thats a relative gain of 20% more air and ultimately more fuel into the engine

IMHO, if you dont notice a difference, your hitting the wrong button

10 dolla... 20 dolla... Same difference. And Stage 2 Cams are for big engines if your gonna tell someone what to buy you should probably know about that product a stage 2 in a stock engine wont immediatly ware out your engine but it will hurt it in 2-3 years
