I noticed a little ticking noise coming from the engine today when I was sitting at idle after riding a while. The engine was warm/hot. Is that normal valve noise or am I being paranoid? The quad isn't even a year old, I shouldn't need to adjust valves should I? I don't have any smoke from the pipe and it runs fine, plenty of power. The quad is an 05' 400ex running a K&N filter, hmf slip on, 152 main jet.

Ideas?????

They all tick a little but your valves might need adjusted if you have put alot of hours on it in the last year. I have also heard alot about the timing chains stretching and causing excessive ticking.

My 03 made a ticking type noise, set the valves still made the noise. Found the spark plug had a small crack, changed the plug and the noise was gone. It must have been a ping or misfire, worth a try.
