Ok so i've been losing alot of oil from my ex, and I can't put my hand behind my exhaust and see the oil on my hand.... So I was wondering if I should go ahead and bore it and put new piston and rings in, or if I should just take it to the shop, let them look at it and tell me if its something different......... Or my final option, leave it like it is, and just buy a lot of oil to keep puttin in there.... But if I do get it bored, I was thinking bout making it a 408, so if I do that anyone know of a place to do it at, and how much it would run with all the equipment and labor....... Thanx a bunch, sry its so long.

is it smoking or is it just sending that crap out? cuz if its smoking, then it is your rings. boring it wont hurt anything at all. i just did a rebuild on my top end this past winter. here were my prices and my parts:

1) Wiseco 416cc 11:1 kit = $130
2) Wiseco top end gasket kit = $30
3) Bored 2mm over = $60

I got my parts threw pistons-online.com, and had my cylinder bored at my local honda shop. I also bought a pipe, air filter, and jet kit, but it looks like you already have that.

you are referring to a 406 overbore. Your bike is pretty new and shouldnt really need a bore yet in most cases unless you race. and usually you just get smoke out the exhaust when there is blowby past the piston rings. Most likely you need a re-ring and bore.

That could also be carbon, you may be running way rich. do you foul plugs? More than likely you need new rings though.

If you are burning a large amount of oil, you'll see blue smoke when you start it, rev it, etc. Are you having to add oil to the tank on a regular basis? What is your current jetting - stock? What's on your hand looks more like carbon to me. Is it wet and oily or dry and sooty?

Hondaman, thats cheaper than I thought it would be...
I don't really foul plugs, every now and then like once every couple of months....
I got a 155 jet in it...
I add oil everytime I start it up and just ride it around....
I don't see blue smoke at all...
And it is kinda wet...

Any other opinions???

Well, I'd say that is definitely carbon. A 155 is way rich, IMO, for a 400ex with a slip-on. I'd probably run closer to a 150 main and a 40 pilot. Is it possible that you have a leak somewhere? If you were burning that much oil, whatever the cause, you would see a lot of blue smoke from the exhaust. If you're loosing oil, it's either burning or leaking, and it doesn't sound like it's burning.

I've looked everywhere, and never seen it leaking out, if it was anywhere on the engine I would smell it, and theres never none under it when I go to the garage.
