Another Jetting Question...

In a few weeks I am going to put a yoshimura pipe, K&N filter w/ outerwear & uni vents on my 400.

I am also going to get a K&N Jet kit.
I havn't jetted my carb before so I don't really know what sizes to use. I'm at about 600ft above sea level...

I was thinking like a 165 or 170 main and a 42 pilot.

what do you think?

Hard to say, but I would start a little lower, maybe a 160/162. But, don't let her run lean. Read some of the "Jetting how to's" for more info.

the K&N jet kit comes with very good instructions, it will tell u exactly what to do and how to do it

You dont need to add the K&N power kit just use stock jets just go bigger. Remember a lean fourstroke feels like its not making any power and a rich on just will not take the throttle it stumbles try putting your choke on half choke and hit the throttle wide open thats a rich bike remember hold on you might go over the bars as if you pulled the front brake. Lean it will go just not make good power.

A 40 pilot and a 155 or 158 main should work great. If the top end feels 'flat' and it runs ok in the lower gears you are too rich, it the top end seems ok and the lower gears suffer you are too lean. Go by the seat of the pants feel, not by the spark plug, that can give you an inaccurate reading. Wherever the bike runs the best, chances are it's jetted spot on.

Go with stock jets, they are $4 each as opposed to 50$ for the jet kit.

How did you get a 6 speed transmission on your 400ex that would interesting to know.

His quad probably runs about 80mph also and its all stock.:p
