I have about 10 hours on my LTR and was going to just change the oil to get some fresh blood in the motor.. (Not the filter yet) or would it be wise to change the filter also??

Anyhow.. What is the best oil to use for the LTR.. I have a Case (I won) of AMSOIL 10/40w.. Has anyone ever used amsoil?? I was running belray thumper oil in my ex.. But the full synthetic oils and some simi synthetic oils will ruin your clutch plates(It will glaze them and make them slip very bad) SO I quit useing full synthetic oils..

I need some input on this..
Thanks

Same Q.
Going on 10h, what oil to use?
Does the LTR use the same oil filter as the LTZ/KFX? I think it does but if someone can just confirm...

Spudss I change the oil filter with every oil change

Just changed my oil and filter. Uses same filter as the z400. I bought the best the dealer had for use in a clutch / engine combo. Motul 5100 10/50 semi syn. On refill it took more than the manual called for by about 6 oz. Kept checking, adding, running, letting it set, rechecking.

Go ahead and use the Amsoil,As long as it is the motorcyle 10-40 you will be fine. Change the oil filter also. Ive ran it for the last 3 years in my yfz 450 and haven't had any issues with the clutch or the engine.

10 hrs, Man I won't go more than 3 rides without changing the oil.
That is no more 3 hrs per oil change.

AMSOIL is the only lube I use in my 330ex. Great stuff. Been using it for years.

Only oil supplier I know of that provides a warranty. ;)

I changed my oil yesterday and am using Motul 5100 10/40, I've used this for years on my two stroke. The dealer also recomened it. Also changed the filter (same one as the Z400).
The bike does take more oil than what the maunel says.

So did it take more than 2 quarts or less.. I put what I think was 400ml in the crank case and the rest and a full quart in the oil tank.. It calls for a total of 1700ml right well 2 quarts is 1600 quarts right?? Well my oil tank is showing I over filled it..

I dont know what happened..

The tank calls for 1200ml but actually takes about 1400ml. Then the 400 ml in the crank case for a total of about 1800 ml. That is less than 2 quarts. 1.05 quarts = 1000ml = 1000cc

my quart bottles say .945 liters/1 qt.. On the side of the quart it shows 800ml down to 200ml that is what I was going by..

If you look you'll see that there is actually more than 800 mill in there very close to 1000. Cus on the once side it starts at 28 oz I think.
