whats the advantage of a straight six? i just kinda got an old cj 5 and have to put it together. its got a straight six and was just wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of a straight six? thanks

if any one says because u save money on gas there lying i bought my jeep 4.oL with a straight six its a 98 grand cherokee and it gets 11.2mpg i reallize i have a very very heavy foot but i mean my dads dodge rammo 2003 v8 gets 23mpg and my freinds camaro with a corvette engine in it (v8)gets 14-16mpg

if its 4x4 they get less gas mileage

How much gas is coming out of that tail pipe on that 4 liter? Must be really high performance.

Anyways, a straight six can fit in a smaller space that a v, it only had 1 cam, 1 head, 1 cylinder "brick" etc.

yeah......when new or in good shape the straight 6 is supposed to have more torque

and yes i can vouch for that its a very torqy engine whic is good for off roading but bad for you tires on pavement cuz it can leave some nice rubber and lots of it

They are tough slower reving engines that can pull stumps all day.

If you want get up and go, go with a V-8.

My friend had a inline 4 in his jeep, pulled it out and dropped in a 305 V-8. He says the gas mileage is the same and the power is double if not triple over the 4 banger.

the straight six will last until the car is falling apart down the road
